    Hello Everyone

Im looking to do some trout fishing this spring. I hardly ever get out there, but when i do i go to whitewater. I have never actually caught one there, its either over fished.. or just my lack of trout fishing knowledge (most likely the 2nd choice).

There are soooo many trout streams out there and i dont have the time or gas money to go everywhere and try each and every stream. There isnt that much info online about which one to go try. Anyone mind sharing a stream to try?

Im not looking for specific spots, i just need a little help on limiting down the number of streams.

    Thank you

I love Whitewater, go there for the opener every year. There are a lot of people who fish there, but generally finding fish isn’t a problem. Getting there early is key, once the sun starts beating down on the water it is very difficult to get biters. As far as other creeks go I’m limited to Hay Creek and Wells occasionally.

Give duschee a try. it runs along the hatchery in lanesboro. pretty good numbers of trout in there, the bridge that goes over the stream to the hatchery is a good community spot to try first. good luck

I think these are the easiest streams to fish. Whitewater, Duschee Creek, Cabin Creek, and South fork of Root River by Lanesboro or around Forestville state park are all good. Clear Creek just north of Zumbro Falls holds a lot of trout in the pool to the west of the highway.

I spent a lot of time trying to catch fish by dry fly fishing with hit and miss success, before learning to fish nymph bead heads or simply using worms & string spinners if fish are not rising.

Mepps Spinners work well in the early summer before the insects come out in numbers, but I have been amazed how trout will switch from chasing spinners and two days later will not follow one after a mayfly hatch during late spring.

Early and mid summer, spinners often work, but in particular, white and some orange shades of spinner bodies seem to be better than others for me. Orange might be related to crayfish in streams.

In the fall, there are often times many bees around flowers along the steam banks. The trout will take bee patterns, presented as both wet and dry in moving water, but often times, these locations with overhanging flowers are hard to fish for beginning fly fishermen due to casting in the rough…
