You’re referring to the rebuilding to the Lingerie League, right?

Good discussion here! Let me start by saying that I could care less if the Vikings left. To say that having an NFL team in your state doesn’t have an economic impact is not correct. They players pay taxes, the bars and restraunts around the stadium make money, people buy apparel, and they head to the bar on Sunday to watch the home team. A friend of mine is an accountant for a few of the Vikings and that is how he makes his money to go fishing. Is a billion dollars a good price for a stadium? I don’t know, but it sounds rediculous to me. The reason this didn’t pass is because some of the money was going to be generated from gambling. Minnesota’s rich casino owners have been working hard to make sure no legislators vote for anything that involves expanding non-tribal gambling.

I don’t argue that, he said that Taxes trickle in, I say besides that trickle…. BUSINESS in the city makes hay. Hotels, restaurants, bars, nightclubs, cabs, the Mall and yes, even the NFL… ask any business owner if they want the superbowl every year To think it is not good for a city and its tax payers, is silly.

I understand the idea that billionaire owners could or should pay for these stadiums but unless you get all 40 or so cities in America to agree on this and play hardball with the owners, that ain’t going to happen.

So each city needs to find the best deal it can. I think Mpls is doing a good job negotiating on this deal. We don’t need the 1B$ stadium that is the Taj Mahal of the NFL. We don’t need retail space and convention space to go along with it.
That’s not what the people of the state are asking for. It may be what the Wilf’s are asking for, but they aren’t going to get it.
Until the Vikings propose a stadium deal that makes sense for MN they are going to continue to lose. On top of that the economy sucks and so does the team. If those two factors get reversed, who knows.
