Minneapolis Vikings Stadium – DOA

Appears as though my taxes will only gradually rise, over the coming years. Paying for a Minnesota teams stadium with 400,000 people ( only about 100,000 of them make any real tax impact ) was folly. Thank you for stopping the Mark Dayton, RT Ryback, Ziggy Wilf circus from rolling into town.

We have a convention center, a Target Stadium (now city owned and expensive to maintain) and a Target Field that Minneapolis has ‘funded”.

Looks like the Vikings are going to have to build their stadium outside of Minneapolis; as the citizens can’t handle the already high mill rate on their property. The “economic impact” argument made zero sense to a Minneapolis resident.

Good for the citizens of Minneapolis.

If Minnesota wants to new stadium – tax the residents of Minnesota for the POS, equally.

    Enjoy

No the “Arden hills ” require a referendum that has no chance of passing.

The stadium is coming to MPLS it’s just a matter of when it happens~

Nobody wants it in their back yard…..

I think it should go on an Indian Reservation. The can have the naming rights, the gaming, food and beverage, etc.

Enjoy….I never go to the place anyway. I don’t care where they play. Just let me tune in on TV or radio.

No. If billionaire team owners or a multi-billion dollar franchise (NFL) wants a new stadium. Buy it yourself. You could write a check today. You have the cash in the bank.

    $1 Billlion –

    Population of Mpls – 385,378
    Population of MN – 5,344,861

For Minneapolis, $2,594.85 ( if you count all 385k ) However, we have a significant population of “freeloaders”.

So, the math is more like $1B/100,000. So, that is more like $10,000 per person that pays taxes in MPLS. Plus, we get to maintain the POS – ( the Target Center and the Converntion Center ) and that is an expensive proposition. No thank you…

For the entire state of MN –

Stadium Cost per person – $187 per person.

Write your check and send to Mark Dayton. No big deal for the state of MN.

Also, make sure you are ready for the annual assessment for maint, insurance, utilities, etc.

This seems to make more sense….

    Enjoy –

But John – think about the “economic impact” of those 8 games per year!!!!!

We should add taxes for rental cars, hotels, food, booze, etc. ( oh yah – we already are doing that for the convention center, Target Field, Target Center, etc. )

Come on man!!!!! Think about the impact!!!!!!

Never understood why they would want to build a new stadium in that scum sucking slum of a city anyway.

As much as I can stand the Vikings I would hate to see them
move. Way too much fun giving grief to my buddies who like them. Especially a fishing guide who will remain nameless

I’m well aware that there are worse cities. Especially in some of the foreign countries I have been to. Doesn’t change my view of mpls. I’m 64 and spent the first 61 years in various parts of mpls. Watched the drug deals, the late night drug raids, the gang fights, the stabbings, the shootings and everything else right out my front windows. In a way I miss some of it once in awhile because some of it was downright comical.

Not a Viking Fan but it still pizzs me off. What are they thinking? Don’t they realize all the money and jobs that are with that new stadium and Vikings staying in MN. And if they move who will I hate?

Why would the Vikings pay for the stadium? They’ll get a stadium somewhere. Then we’ll just pay a higher price down the line. Hopefully, like the Browns, they’ll give us the name back. Like it or not, that is what will happen.

    Awesome!

If they leave over this I say “good riddance”

I would say take the other pro teams with them but we have already given the Twins their hand out. Hopefully this will send a message to the Wild and Wolves. “Don’t even ask!”

LOL, you must have missed the Wolves memo when all this was going on.

I am not rubbing people’s noses in it, just being a realist. It will get done, so enjoy the small victory this year.

If I had it my way, I’d make it illegal to fund ANY private venture. Whatever city/state started this by paying for part of a pro sports team’s stadium, ticks me off.

Maybe would should make a behind doors deal with the NFL to get a Super Bowl here not long after building it. No one can deny that money infusion.

That deal already exists. Every Owner that has successfully extorted a new stadium from the taxpayers has been rewarded by the NFL with a Super Bowl. The coffers of the owner and the NFL are the ones to reap the rewards. Just some tax dollars trickle into the cities pockets. The NFL cuts a sweetheart deal with all the hotels, books all their rooms for the week. Corporate sponsors get the tickets. Local city residents get the traffic hassles. Oh……tax payers also get the bill for additional security (cops & fire).

Let them move, the games are better on TV anyway.

They will figure out how to get it done – no matter what it takes and I am opposed. Governor Dayton hired Ted Mondale to ram-rod it and he is the poster child of nefarious public/private ventures. He worked at the highest possible level, EVP of Petters Worldwide, CEO of Petters Red Tag World while he was Chairman of the Metropolitan Council under Ventura. He started Nazca Solutions which was, for the most part vaporware that he wedged into the back door of numerous MN local government agencies. Petters came into Nazca as a major investor – Mondale sold that and to my knowledge, they never delivered on the taxpayer funded projects they started. Somehow, Ted lived and profited big-time in that Petters stink for a long time, yet he never got tangled up in the investigations and prosecutions that followed. Amazing.

Check his record then hide your wallet.

I agree 100% that it will get done. However, that certainly doesn’t make it right nor will I let them go easy.

Maybe if the Vikes leave we’ll get more coverage of the Lingerie League….

Bad news Sarge, that league has suspended operations for a year. They will be back in the spring of 2013 or 2014.

I suppose they (NFL) buy up all the steak dinners and bottles of wine too, in a sweetheart deal and profit from that also during the superbowl week ??? I’d love to see some numbers and stats on the NFL renting the hotels… If you think ONLY tax dollars “trickle” in during a SB week…. you definitely have the blinders on…

The stadium will get built but right now the number is too high. We don’t need a 1B stadium, just something nice to play in.

The Twins had their sights on bigger things early on and came back to reality and settled on a very nice facility. The Vikes need to do the same. Anything over $650M needs to be added to the Wilf’s share!

Actually Dutch appears to be right on with the NFL basically hoarding all the money. I Googled “city revenue from super bowl” and the articles all point to Indianapolis losing money. Its apparently a windfall for the NFL and Hotels.

Here’s my favorite quote from one of the articles…

“The NFL is using its tax-exempt status (yes, the NFL is tax-exempt, and yes, lots of other people also think this is ridiculous) to get its wmployees out of paying hotel and restaurant taxes.”

    Oh well, I tried.
