hey guys, I am a student soon to be attending school at the U of M. As an avid fisherman, I am looking for somewhere in the Minneapolis area that is fishable (not species specific, but walleye, pike, bluegill, crapie or large mouth preferred over rough fish) and does not require a boat. thanks for the help!

Pool 2 of the Mississippi provied for some good shore fishing, also check the lakes in Southwest. Harriet and Calhoun have produced for many of the members here. Good Luck!

Cruise over to Boom Island park, You can bike from Campus. plenty of spots to shore cast, focus on the shoot on the north/east side of the river around Hennepin Island.
Numbers of smaller smallmouth, ocasional walleye and of course cats and rough fish if you target them.
Also plenty of spots from shore between the 2 locks at St Anthony falls.

When I went to the U of M, we shore fished along the Mississippi. We had our best luck around the 94 bridge.

There are plenty of trails and access all along West River Parkway as well, which is really close to the U.

When I was your age my trolling would have been done at Deja Vu or other clubs around the area.

But, in the long run your idea is better.

If I still in college, I would target bass and musky around Calhoun and Harriet. When the fish arent biting, the gals offer good scenery.
