Do I need to have one to launch in or even travel through minnesota(to Canada) if I’m from WI? I often launch in Redwing to fish P4 and once in a while on the Mn side to get on the Croix. I read its not a chargable offense until 2013 or 14 but would get one if it means I will be harrased less if I come upon a Warrden!

My dad mentioned something about that last night. Where do you get one or how do you get one?
April 13, 2012 at 11:29 am #1058567There was a distribution issue, that hopefully is resolved. The stickers should be in most bait shops and places licenses are sold. I have a small stack for folks. I’m not sure if they will mail one out to you. Call (651) 296-6157 or
(888) 646-6367April 13, 2012 at 12:05 pm #1058577Buzz, do you have the email ad?
Even though I don’t agree with it…it is the law.
…and I don’t make up my own laws.April 13, 2012 at 12:09 pm #1058578This was posted in the Detroit Lakes local paper:
A new required decal is now available for Minnesota boaters to help remind them of the state’s aquatic invasive species laws, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) announced today. The free decals are available from:
• DNR offices.
• Deputy registrar offices where licenses are sold.
• Large sporting goods shops.
• DNR watercraft inspectors and conservation officers.
The decals will also be included in envelopes with new and renewal watercraft licenses mailed from the DNR. The decal should be attached to all types of watercraft including canoes, kayaks and duckboats before launching on, entering into, or operating on any Minnesota waters. The two-piece, gray-and-black decals detail new state laws that watercraft users must follow in order to avoid spreading aquatic invasive species such as zebra mussels, Eurasian watermilfoil and spiny waterfleas.
The decal must be attached to the watercraft, but state law does not specify where that must occur. DNR officials recommend displaying it where it can be read and can be shown to an officer upon request. However, the decal does not need to be in view of the operator (as is the case with the state’s personal watercraft decal), and it does not need to be placed near the watercraft registration decals.
If a watercraft owner does not want to stick the decal on the boat because it is an antique wooden boat or other unique boat, the decal can be attached or laminated to an object like a luggage tag and kept in the boat.
There are two parts to the decal. Watercraft owners and operators must display the top portion of the decal on all watercraft prior to launching on, entering into, or operating on any waters of Minnesota.
The second portion of the decal is intended to be placed on the winch post of watercraft trailers or in another area to remind boaters to remove the boat’s drain plug when leaving a water access area as required by state law. It also reminds boaters to replace the plug before launching. This decal is not required by law.
There is no penalty in effect, but conservation officers can issue a warning for not displaying the decal. After Aug. 1, 2014, it will be a petty misdemeanor for boaters who fail to display the decal on their watercraft. More information about aquatic invasive species laws is available at http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/invasives/aquatic_qa.html
I dont know how they can write a warning ticket when you have no law in effect yet to warn about?
April 13, 2012 at 12:32 pm #1058589WTF ?? Maybe they can turn the whole rules and reg’s book into a sticker and we can plaster that all over the boat too… Who the he77 came up with this one ??? I suppose somebody got a grant to combat AIS and said… “let’s make some stickers”
desperadoPosts: 3010April 13, 2012 at 12:37 pm #1058592In the official/government sense, NONE of us make up our own laws. Or more accurately/specifally, we don’t each individually make the statutes of the State.
The catagory of “laws” however is much broader than the catagory of “statutes”; i.e. the law of gravity.
Now, in the practical sense … we ALL make our own laws every day with each decision we make; will you follow the speed limit, did you wear your seat belt? (no matter which way you answered, you made YOUR “law” that day)
leeck12Posts: 33April 13, 2012 at 12:40 pm #1058596I just picked a couple up off the fishin counter at Scheels. I think they have plenty out there now, so you should be able to get one almost anywhere they sell license’s.
April 13, 2012 at 12:41 pm #1058598I’m way before my time.
I’ve said years ago the fishing license in MN will run $500. and be sold in a cell phone or PDA. The gps will locate the lake your on and give the owner all the special regs for that lake. Slots, what species of fish has an open season…what AIS can be found in the lake.
And now, when driving to or from a lake, you phone will ring telling you to make sure to check for invasives.
April 13, 2012 at 12:42 pm #1058599And they want us to pay more for our fishing license’s huh…
I just removed the guides on my trailer, one on each side and they are 2×4’s carpeted and help guide the boat on, one was rotted and the other felt like it was getting there, guess what I found under the carpet?
Not sure but a dead ringer for mussels.
Curing the problem seems the only way to spend money, not another feel good pos law and the enforcement of it.
But what the heck, it ain’t their money.

desperadoPosts: 3010April 13, 2012 at 12:42 pm #1058600But MANY of us get quite annoyed when we see a “do-nothing” legislature or a “do-nothing” agency wasting our money on something completely useless in an effort to “do nothing more than” trying to make it APPEAR that they are “actually doing something”
While MANY will be annoyed by this situation, SOME will be annoyed to the point of rebellion. The term for those individuals? Patriots !!

And they’re going to issue you a “GPS trackable” fishing license?
April 13, 2012 at 1:32 pm #1058611I do not really understand how a sticker is going to fix the problem or a small fine? But since I fish P4 and Mille Lac, I figured better call and get a sticker! It actually only 2 minutes to give info for sticker to be sent. I will put the sticker on trailer and boat so won’t have to deal with it.
April 13, 2012 at 1:57 pm #1058630so last year on the Croix launching at the Bluffs, the DNR was there and would issue these stickers having you put on your trailer last year. I thought it was funny they were checking all the fishermen coming off the water but none of the pleasure cruisers…..

Would this mean you are not an American Patriot??
