I haven’t heard this week but they were last weekend. They been getting a good number of fish but most have still been green. After 3 days they must release the fish. They got 34 quarts(might have been liters?)I believe in one day, asked if that was good and they said they usually get that in an hour.

Should make for a good year class coming up

So I have heard the term “green” with spawning walleyes a couple times now. What does that mean?

NM, found this at another site.

    Quote:

Our crews have been collecting a lot of male and female walleyes, but so far almost 75% of those females are still what we refer to as “green”–in other words the females are full of eggs, but not quite ready to deposit them yet.

I figured that much, but thought maybe “green” might have referred to some physical indicator like the hue of the fish.

    Its just field lingo –
Green means full of eggs but not ready to spawn
Ripe means full of eggs and ready to spawn
Flowing means eggs are falling out
