Suzuki wasn’t available so I have my 2nd best East Metro guy on it!
No BK did not make the top 20 on that list .. mechanically speaking of course.

    Updates later…

Man, its discouraging, especially at a time right now when money is tighter than Rosie O’Donnel in spandex.(had to think of a person everyone could relate to…) anyway, just having a little anxiety because financially this couldn’t happen at a worse time… but I’ll get through it. I really want to thank PierBridge and StuWest for all of their personal help and advice. PierBridge jumped my dang car and followed me to Walmart to get this new battery. This will help narrow it down if its the battery or alternator, hopefully. Great people here on this site, and couldn’t have done this without you all! Thanks deeply!

Heres the easiest way to find out if its the alternator. Start your car with a jump from cables. While its running disconnect eigther battery cable and if it dies its the alternator. If it doesn’t die that means the alternator is charging enough to run the motor. Try it and see if it runs or dies, this is the very first thing I do if I want to find out if eigther is going out. Buy yourself some cheap tools and do it yourself, it may take a few hours but its better then spending $400 bucks and it really isn’t that hard to do, just make sure you get the alternator belt tight if it doesn’t have a belt tensioner pully.

Actually I was pretty sure it was both after our initial testing.

Upon arriving the car was dead. After jump starting the car we tested the Alternator under load “still connected to cables/battery” Noticed the voltage was on the low end of needed voltage at 12.7 to 13V “red flag 1” voltage should have been higher due to the depleted state of the battery…. but also noticed the age “8 years” and condition of the battery was not good. The battery was cracked and leaking ACID. Due to time restraints, lack of a couple key tools to get battery out of vehicle and having to be back to work we elected to attempt to get vehicle to Walmart. Knowing the car had killed after jump starting previously. “it should run without good battery” “red flag on alt 2” We got lucky and it didn’t kill until we hit the Wally parking lot. Re-jumped it again and got it around to the service center.

After some minor debacles the Wally staff got the vehicle in and the battery out. After a short phone conversation with Wally staff on my way home alternator was checked again not under load “unhooked cable from battery” and 12.1 volts was it with occasional killing of engine thus telling us we had the Alternator problem too.

So after seeing the poor condition and leaking of said battery we opted to get new battery. Versus totally charging old battery and testing it correctly with the possibility of saving aging battery.

I haven’t heard yet but I can only assume Corey made it home with New battery installed.

So the plan is tomorrow “friday at lunch” to pick up a New alternator meet him after his school classes end and after rechecking Wally and our original work with volt meter with a battery cable un-hooked and confirm out of parameter voltage from said alternator and then installing New Alternator thus solving problems if we re-confirm condition.

In a nutshell there was just enough left in the alternator to keep it running for short intervals.

I’m open to any other recommendations and thanks to all who have chimed in with there input.

As we all know IDO Rocks~

My brothers wished I had IDO when I was younger. They were my mechanics by default.

If you have a volt meter, with the car running you should have 13.6 to 14.5 volts.
