I’m moderately excited for this season. I used to LOVE it but it seems to get a little less interesting as the years go on. Maybe the same thing each season?? I am curious to see how the Rambling Rose and the other sophomore does this year.

To this date this is still one of my favorite shows to watch. Every season is so good, Phil will always been missed though.

I cant wait either, actually watching repeats as I type. It is also nice to see that my brother-in-law’s (Trampled by Turtles) music is played on the show.

Got home from scouting turkeys last night to find it was on… I tape the entire series so it started for me last night with what I thought were reruns. It seems that there is a recap of last years series that ran two hours last night, that will be starting Tuesday nights showings. There are some interesting plots being started already…

Phil had that captivating passion about what he did, his boys, and the fleet. Those kind of people motivate others (often in unique ways ), I enjoy hearing people talk of their passion when it come from their heart. When Keith Colburn (wizzard) is on, I usually fast forward. There is a huge difference between passion and arrogance!

I’m not a Keith fan, either, but I love the show and am excited for the new season! I love those crazy Hillstrand brothers.

Thank God there are other people who can’t stand Keith. Those Hillstrand brothers are the best

    This dork was hilarious.

I am not dumb enough to say I could work a season on the boat, maybe not even as a youngster. But I am sure I could at least not make a fool of myself as bad as this dope did.

@ hours in and what did he say? “I can’t do it”?

Good show last night and an interesting start to the season with the red king crab quota being cut by half. I wish the MN DNR would have been that aggressive with the walleye population back when the fishing was good.

Anyway, it’ll be interesting to see how the guys that went way up north to fish for blue king crab do.

If you want to look at a place that is the end of the earth, take a look at St. Matthew’s Island on Google Earth. Yeah. Add that to the places that I don’t want to live.

I like watching Elliot Neese and the Ramblin Rose. He looks like a kid, but he’s hard-core and runs a tight boat. Be interesting to see if he can do well this season.

Also interesting to see the Cornelia Marie era has ended.

Me no like Neese or the other youngster that runs a boat. Just personal preference.

I am glad Edgar is back. He kind of looks like one of my brothers and his back and forth with Sig seems very familiar to me.

Jonathan used to bug me, but he has grown on me a little. I am not as big of a Time Bandit fan as most. Mike Fourtner really bugs me.

    Great prank last night.

I like Wild Bill. He can be an a-hole, but that is why I find him entertaining. Plus, he’s a Ski.

I thought it was a great opening episode.. There were some surprises and I like the reasoning for the different strategies of the captains. I’d like to see Keith get snuffed by the 2 young guns up there though. That otta put him in his place. Looks to be a good season.

Keith is a pompous butthead. I don’t care much for the tell-a-tubby Wild Bill on the Kodiak either.
I love the way the Time Bandit and Northwestern prank each other. Without these two boats I’d lose interest in the show.

Captain Phil rocked. I hope Jonathan does well with the Hillstrand’s and I hope Jake keeps his nose clean with Sig!

You think that having meat fishermen trawl out millions of 6 walleye limits all the way into the 1990s didn’t do anything to hurt the quality of the fishing in this state? What about the 100 perch limits, do you think that helped the perch fishing long-term? Were you even fishing in MN in the 1970s and 80s when we still had fishing that could rival Canada?

How long do you think pool 2 would stay good if there was a 6 fish limit allowed with no slot limit? Crazed meat fishermen would have it trawled out in a year.

The reason some fishing now is as good or better than it has ever been is a combination of improving water quality, changing angler attitudes, and vastly reducing limits. IMO, there’s way more to be done on the reducing limits front to keep rabid meat fishermen from killing off the sport just to fill their freezers.

You are contradicting your original point. The fishing today IS better than it has been in most of our lifetimes!!!

And yes, I have been fishing in this state since the late 60’s.

I thought I heard Rowe say as Josh was boarding the Time Bandit; A boat owner working on a different boat. Did anybody else notice that or did I hear wrong? Anyways, after watching the final episode of last season yesterday you could see that there would be no way they could run the boat together. Jake wanted to dive in and Josh wanted to proceed carefully.

I see your point Grouse. No doubt the rabid meat fisherman have a major impact on the resource. No doubt.

I noticed it too. I am guessing they still own the CM, even though it just sits in the port.

That Derrick Ray was the worst thing to happen to the CM and Deadliest. He was an idiot who only looked for excuses and scapegoats. Sounds like he is doing good for himself though….running a tour boat. LOL

And Bret, the fact you don’t like Wild Bill only makes me like him more. Go Wild Bill go! hee hee hee

I doubt the kids of the CM have any operating cash to run the boat.. Unless the majority owner kicks in all of it,, I can only assume it’s up for rent.

He talked a lot of trash before he got on the boat. Funny how he only made it a few hours.
Btw, why is he throwing up the shocker?

Last fall on the C.M. website, there was more info listed on the status of the Cornelia Marie and the repairs needed. Between money and time, the boat wouldn’t be ready for crab season, so Jake and Josh pursued working on other boats.

From the current website “Why isn’t the Cornelia Marie on season 8 of the Deadliest Catch? The simple, obvious reason is that the CM didn’t go fishing during these crab seasons. The reason for that is more complicated but was mainly due to the boat needing repairs.”

As a business owner, I think they may have made the best choice. With the red crab quotas cut in half, and blues are such a gamble….they at least secured revenue by being on two of the best boats in the sea (that are televised). Their lack of experience with blue crab could have put an end to owning the ship….

I cant believe either one of those guys could ever handle being captain. They are perpetually immature. Seem to be mentally damaged in some way? The oldest seems more solid.
