where did you hear this from?
The Aitkin DNR fisheries office verified this to me today via email. 54.8lbs. 56″ long. Of course, caught via Tribal regime gill-net.
it wouldnt surprise me……. if true sure is a sad day for mn anglers….. i think i would hate to be the netter who killed the state record Ski i here the muskie guys are like the maffia, blood for blood…….
Sad story. Again tribes fail to protect nature as was taught in grade school that the natives we stewards of the land. The whites were destroyers. Times sure have changed. guess they will share the meat with all members. no reason to kill a fish like that.
I just passed this information on to another site and it was deleted by site management within 10 min. there were no reply’s to it so it couldnt have been because of a bad comment…….. what do guys think is going on there??

Because they know it’s gonna get ugly and decided to nip it in the bud before it could….
That really blows!!! Not a Muskie guy, per se, but I hate to hear a fish of that Caliber killed, by any means!!

Depends which site it was on. If it was one of the Muskie sites it was doomed to be deleted anyway. If it was that site that had Minnesota in it’s name, they might not have liked the way the wind was blowing. If you aren’t “in” over there you have zero chance of having any kind of discussion.
For what it’s worth, it has a better then 50 / 50 chance of getting locked up here to. Netting is a hot button, add in a Muskie and it’s as bad as politics. People can’t help themselves.

I heard China bases their internet control on that site’s practises…
Does that go in a sovereign record book? Hope they are proud, must have been a great fight
We’ll if people would stop blindly throwing there money at the casino’s over the netting issue maybe we would get some where with this subject, money talks and empty casino’s will certainly get there attention. Of course every time I drive by a casino there are cars and bus’s everywhere – just stating an observation
First, keep in mind, it is up to the site you are on what they want to deal with, so no surprise it got yanked if I am thinking about the same site as you.
That being said, I am pretty sure that this is not the first fish of this size to make it into the gill nets, it just happens to be one we heard about. There have been 2-3 other 56 inch class fish taken the last couple years I am just hearing about…
Or a surcharge for the DNR restocking year after year and them being able to net some of those stocked fish, looks like thier on the receiving end. I’m sure everybody likes funding something that doesen’t come back to them but that goes to someone that abuses the resource, no heat under the kettle today!
Here you can see 2 in the nets from Wednesday. They get tossed back at the end.

Except that it isn’t just fishermen that visit casinos. I highly doubt it would be enough for them to beg to have netting and spearing revoked.
And a lot of the fishermen who visit casinos don’t care because spearing and netting does not affect them directly.
If you have enough “public access” around the area casino, you could do some sort of “informational picketting” in that area. But, if you don’t have the information you want known by the public to hand out, it’d be a waste of time. Whatever you do, don’t do it like PARR did in Wisconsin.
It is sad to see yes BUT………
Muskies are very common compared to many other native species that are killed often because people don’t know what they are and think they are invasive. That puts me in a worse mood than this.
Fish that are not protected in MN that should be.
Blue Sucker
River Redhorse
Greater Redhorse
Black Buffalo
Topeka shiner
Guilt darter
Crystal Darter
Gravel Chub
And there are more!

Bob…I’m blind to this stuff so I have questions…1) What are they suppose to do with Muskies that are caught in their nets? Bring them in for the DNR to account for or throw them back…2) How do we know those were Musky and not Northern?
I think that this is the reason (one of many) that so many fisherman HATE gill netting. Unlike angling or spearing, you cant choose what fish get harvested.
