Sorry to hear, that is really a crappy way to start your day. Just curious, are you using O.E. fuel pumps?

I changed the last one and paid the extra ching for the GM fuel pump because of the horror stories I heard about off brand pumps. Original pump lasted to 100K and this one 90K. I see a pattern here

And or … you should buy a Dodge … on a side note Dodge/Chrysler sales this month are up an industry leading 34 percent over last year …

Might want to set yourself a little reminder for about 85,000 miles from now: Replace fuel pump. Again.

It’s a bummer, but what can you do? All mechanical objects are either broken down or about to break at some point in the future.

That’s what the wife said Dave

She wants to dump the truck but I’m not looking forward to buying another!

But it’s still cheaper than a truck payment over a five year time period. At least that’s what I tell myself. I have 200g on my ranger so my days are coming.

You live in Sparta, they’d probably be fine with you dropping your gas tank in the parking lot.

If you can line up some help lift the topper and the box off. Set the topper on a couple of boards and set the box on some saw horses. The pump is right there easy to work on.

Like this? This is the first time I changed the pump with 30 gallons of gas in the tank. Don’t tell big G, he will argue it is easier to drop the tank With a busy Easter weekend planned I had it dropped off at the shop this time. I do appreciate the thoughts though, thank you

I had a 96 chev Z71. Loved the truck, but those fuel pumps are a known issue. I replaced my at around 100K miles. You are right about getting the GM pump, I fixed my own and bought an aftermarket brand to save a few more $$ and was replacing again at 130K Also changing the fuel filter yearly and never running on a low tank of fuel is a must with those pumps.

If you decide to fix yourself you should be able to save $300-400. Shoot me a PM as there are is a simple trick that could really save you a lot of time/frustration

Here is a question for you Mr. G…why don’t the have an access panel in the bed of any brand truck? I have often thought about that.

Same thing happened to me 3 weeks ago. I was on my way to Green Bay. Took the wife’s car. Had it towed to a shop, the guy let me use his car to go get dinner, had it repaired in 1 hr. $492.00. I learned from the tow truck driver that he was going to retire, leave his wife, and move to Puerto Rico. Ok, dude…whatever you say.

Just think…you’ll be on the water in no time!

It would put me out of work… Most Mitsubishi cars, you remove the bottom of the back seat and walla !! Top of the tank

    I wouldn’t want that buddy

It was nice when a guy could work on stuff without needing a ton of tools and a floor hoist of some kind. Now some of my tools, such as my timing light just sit around and look pretty It’s really funny when people ask what the heck that thing is for

I guess I’ll just keep changing my oil and filters, which is no savings anymore, just to feel like I can still do something with my vehicles.

On both of my car I can still change the plugs and wires and few other things. Yeah, I miss the days of really digging in under the hood. Now looking under the on my 07 truck scares me! So I let someone else do it.

We have 2 GMs. They both have 12 inch square panel cutouts in the left front corner of the box , Got an old piece of floor from the junkyard and made nice covers over the holes….. you just slide the bed mat back , take out 4 screws and the fuel pump is right there !!! I have updated several for my buddies too.

That’s why I buy the extended warranties. Got one a couple years ago even though my truck was ten years old and had 90k on it. It’s good for six years and another 100k. No paying for towing or anything.
