Just to simplify things and reduce oil/gas can inventory, I was wondering if I could use TCW-3 50:1 2 stroke mixed oil for my Echo trimmer??

I understand marine oil is designed for water cooled engines vs. air cooled. I only use my trimmer a couple times/yr at my cabin and it would be easier to just use my pre-mixed Merc gas.

Think I would have problems doing this a couple times/yr??

Anybody else do this w/out problems??

I only use Echo’s premium oil for all my Echo equiptment and my snow blower, its a 50 to 1 mix. With it I have maintained my equipt for over 30 years.

I’m sorry I’m no help on the crossover. I hope you are able to for the ease! Call your local 2 cycle dealer of prefered choice and find out. I’m sure he will know.

When I ran Merc 2 strokes, I used the oil in my Stihl chainsaws and trimmer for years. My old saws are 25+ yrs old. Didn’t seem to hurt them any- – jerr

It not as if it is a high performance precision piece of equipment…
For years when I was younger I ran FF TC-W3 in everything due to lack of money, but nothing I had was High Performance nor top notch equipment. I or my father still have those pieces of equipment.

I too was sick of many different oils on my self a few years ago so I switched everything to Amsoil HP.

I honestly can’t see how it’s going to hurt for the average homeowner to do this. If you were a pro running a saw or cutter for hours every day, 5 days a week, it might possibly matter.

Just to note also that many general purpose 2 stroke oils are TCW-3 rated if you read the fine print.

I’ve certainly run outboad oil in chainsaws and brush cutters before. When I’ve got 5 or 10 gallons of outboard mixed fuel sitting around, I’m not going to stop and go to the gas station to mix up one gallon of chainsaw gas. I do run a dedicated low-smoke synth in my saws, but I don’t notice any problems when I’ve switched to outboard oil at the same ratio.

BTW, I run Penzoil semi-synthetic for my outboards, so that’s what I’ve run through saws and brush cutters.

I have run TCW-3 on all of my 2 strokes and never have had a problem. My Echo leaf blower is no different.

I would recommend the Saber 100:1 Amsoil for your weed trimmer. Use that with a little quickshot in the gas and you will see a differance in the performance.
