The Gophers are in the championship of the NIT on Thursday night and not a peep. What is wrong with you Minnesotans?? Honestly, I figured Washington would blow them out. Hopefully they can find a way to win Thursday.

March 28, 2012 at 1:54 pm #1053381NIT = Not in tournament
Seriously though, I am a fan but I think this program is cursed. I think they need to let Tubby go and start from scratch. Between the injuries and basket cases the program has really slid in the last couple years.
I hope they win on Thursday. It might just be the spark the program needs. Unfortunately if they win it probably mean that Tubby will be around a little longer.
March 28, 2012 at 1:58 pm #1053382Who are the gophers?? On a serious note they have played well in NIT, but Tubby is not the answer. Look at the number of quality players that have left the program since he has been the coach. Let Tubby go and hire an up and coming coach.
March 28, 2012 at 2:02 pm #1053383only took him 4 years to figure out that Sampson should NEVER see the floor.
seriously though. they’ll be good next year. Hollins, hollins, williams, mbakwe, elliason/otto plus bench experience. If they don’t win next year then I will seriously question the coaching.
by the way – why didn’t the Otto kid play last night?
I personally think welsh, armelin and maverick have no business seeing the floor. maybe welsh.
March 28, 2012 at 2:04 pm #1053386I couldn’t agree with you guys more. It’s good for the program in some aspects, especially for the kids. It’s bad for our hopes of getting rid of Tubby, I have no offensive playbook, Smith.
March 28, 2012 at 2:08 pm #1053388I watched the last half and overtime, they almost blew it. And the refs blew some calls, both ways. Very intertaining game though.
March 28, 2012 at 2:15 pm #1053395My take on the gophers is Tubby is trying to recruit Kentucky type players but best ones easily make it to better schools so he ends up with the second or third tier and these players are not into team play so much. They are good athletes but when the second half needs gritty play and defense they fail.

A more true statement has never been typed about Gopher sports
March 28, 2012 at 2:33 pm #1053413The Gopher hockey team is headed to the Frozen Four.
Winning the NIT would be good for the program, but it will lock Tubby in for another year.
March 28, 2012 at 2:51 pm #1053432I’ll take some heat for this I’m sure but I give Tubby a pass on this stuff for bad luck. Mbakwe doesn’t blow a knee and they are in the real tourney, no problem. Maybe even win a game.
If Royce White doesn’t get caught stealing at MOA and is still on the team, and Mbakwe doesn’t blow a knee, this is a top 3 Big Ten team with a real shot at a real tourney run.I had never seen White play until this years tourney and I was amazed at what a stud player he is.
But that’s the fine line between having a top program, and competing for the NIT crown!
March 28, 2012 at 2:58 pm #1053443I agree…. this team could easily have been in the NCAA tourney & possibly a sweet 16 team. look how the BIG 10 teams fared that were/are in it That said… I hope they win thursday and really hope the real Gophers win the Hockey title too !!
March 28, 2012 at 3:32 pm #1053458I am a huge gophers fan! I loved watching them last night and although the teams haven’t been as amazing as i was hoping the last few years. Tubby has sure brought in some talent . Hopefully they can pull out a W next game.
March 28, 2012 at 3:33 pm #1053460I don’t follow basketball but I do know people call it the not important tournament…..
March 28, 2012 at 3:35 pm #1053463They still have the opportunity to be one of the two teams in the nation to end their season with a win.

There were alot of teams that won there last games. They just wern’t good enough to get in any tournaments.
March 28, 2012 at 3:55 pm #1053476As soon as Tubby was named Head Basketball Coach of the Gophers, I went out and purchased season tickets. This year, I did not renew them and I’m thankful that I didn’t. I’ve seen too many things for my disliking in regard to Tubby. One is all the players that have left the team for one reason or another – such players include Iverson, Joseph, White, Carter, Cobbs and Dawson. I realize some of these players were in unique situations but there is a pattern here and it’s not positive.
When Al Nolen went down last year, Tubby’s decision to put Hoffarber at the point created the worst collapse in college basketball history. At the end of Jan. they were ranked as high as 15 in the country and then went on to lose the next 10 of 11 games and didn’t even get invited to the NIT. Tubby then had the audacity to blame injuries for their demise.
I’m happy to see that the team made it to the finals of the NIT. Next year looks bright – but one injury can change all that just like the last 2 years and Tubby will use it as an excuse again or we can’t recruit because we don’t have a practice facility. Well Tubby – you don’t deserve one based on what we pay you (approx. $2M a year) and the results you’ve achieved!
Here’s a very interesting article about Tubby that was written back in 2007 by Gregg Doyel. How true it is…
Tubby Blew it with the Wildcats; what Chance do the Gophers have?

Otto is still recovering from the concussion he received in the previous game. He was hit hard.
March 28, 2012 at 4:21 pm #1053486Otto has a concussion. Sampson has the knee excuse…best thing for the program. I think Tubby finally realized who should be playing. It’s only 4 1/2 months after the fans had figured it out.

Not true. Everyteam in the NCAA play’s in their conference championships. If you win your conference championship you are in the tourney. Either you win the NIT or the NCAA otherwise you dont end with a win. Period. Look it up.
March 28, 2012 at 4:27 pm #1053490Also everyone can’t be bagging on Tubby for the program. He has risen it from the ashes honestly. Don’t you guys remember how awful the teams were before he came. Now at least we have talent. Yea, some of his gameplan decisions are poor but we all need to wait until next year to start saying he needs to leave. Next year if Mbakwe stays which he should, and no one else transfers, this team will be a serious conference contender with all of the returning players and now having experienced guards.
Can’t throw him out until next year, he recruited all of these talented players let him coach them. You can’t tell me the program was better the years before cause I never remember turning on the tv and seeing us contend with Michigan State and Ohio State before he was here.

Tubby failed miserably at Kentucky as if thats even possible. How in the world can he do it here? He hasn’t and he won’t.

March 28, 2012 at 4:43 pm #1053499Div II….Div III….
But he did say, they didn’t get in any tourneys….. false.
March 28, 2012 at 4:52 pm #1053503Tubby needs to be let go. There are a lot of great coaches out there. Look at how Jim Wacker turned the football program around.
March 28, 2012 at 4:55 pm #1053505My bad forgot about D2 D3 and NAI or whatever that other league is called
