hard to understand why the state of iowa runs and pays for fish hatcheries and the wages to dnr fish managers then the dnr puts otters in the state to kill the fish they just planted–maybe someone out there can advise me snagged
Two completely separate enmities. Fish managers manage the fish…wildlife managers manage the mammals. Both have agendas for improvements to the habitat and populations. In this case, one just happens to eat the other. We run into the same issue on a number of our WI trout streams. Thousands of dollars and countless volunteer hours in habitat reconstruction on the streams and then otters move in and hit the trout pretty hard. Trappers take a few, but with limited tags, most don’t hit them hard.
