I know I’ve asked this in the past, but I can’t recall the answer. Are these fish protected at all this time of year. Seems like a person with low moral values could put a hurtin’ on these fish.

Nope. Open season. 5 fish per day, no minimum length. 1000s of boats on the wolf on a weekend and they don’t even put a dent in the population.
Wow, must be some sort of fishery supporting all that traffic. Are these mostly Bago fish?

They are all from the Winnebago system. Bago, Butte des Mortes, Winnecone, and Poygan. Keep in mind that a bunch also run up the Fox river toward Berlin. Bago has an unbelievable population of walleye.
Winnebago alone is 130,000 acres, through in Winneconne and Butte de Morts along with the Fox river and there is some serious amount of water
10-4. I was looking at the map trying to gauge where all these fish come from. Sounds like the Rainy River run from LOTW.
I swear I could sit and watch this ALL DAY LONGGGG and not get bored!

John, that doesn’t even include the fish that spawn on the reefs and suitable shorelines. Fish are in spawn mode in most mid-sections of the river where I’ve been at. All nite stuff 9 to 3 in 1 to 3 fow on cranks. Pretty aggressive when they go shallow at night

Good point Randy. There is a pretty fair amount of fish that never leave the lake. Saugers especially. I grew up in Omro so spent a lot of time fishing the run on the Fox river. We also used to pound fish on the windswept rocky points along the west shore while everyone else was up in the river if we got tired of the boat traffic on the Fox. We had very little company on the lake at that time of year.
Watched that camera a few days ago and there was nothing going buy at that time. Pretty cool now.
Must’ve been an earlier spring in 2012. I have watched this last couple years and just checked today for the heck of it.
Nothing yet, but maybe soon?
I think it is no longer active, i have been watching Shiocton 2 for the last week and it is playing the same loop… The other cameras do not work for me.
I checked their FB page and it sounds like they still have intent on bringing them online. This is from March 3rd from their page. Perhaps it’s still early this year?
“We just launched camera 1, while we wait for the ice to go out. We went thru 24” of the hard stuff to get a hole open to drop the camera…in the middle of the river (it was treacherous getting there). The underwater natural lighting is good yet in the deep. Just want to see if there are fish moving in the deeper water. Nothing closer to shore yet but let’s see what is in the depths. We’ve never had them this deep before.”
John, the Bago sauger population isn’t anything like you remember. DNR has tried to rebuild it, but with limited success.
Re the “huge walleye population” mentioned, there must be a reason the DNR is proposing a three fish limit. Three public hearings in the Fox Valley area.
5-6 years can change a lot. The 3 fish limit will be enacted. There’s a lot of fish on Bago, but the populations are hammered pretty hard during the Spring runs. Technology and social media have made it so a relatively novice angler can get on fish in the area all Spring. The days of keeping 5 fish are going to be gone for good.
One of my best friends guides in the area and has not shyed away with some of his concerns.

3 fish limit is on the Spring hearing agendas. If it happens will probably be 2020 before it happens.

In 2012 today’s temp was 83 degrees. It was warmest March on record I think. Big difference in temp explains the fish run.
Looks like they’re back up.
Shiocton 1 & 2. Nothing much moving through yet. May be a little while once it starts warming up.
Marshes up there are still iced up and the wolf is I’ve 4 feet low
The suckers are moving! Just saw about 10-12 of them in 20 minutes of viewing both shioc 1&2
Anyone been watching lately? I’ve stopped in for 10 minutes or so at a time, once or twice a day. Haven’t seen an ‘eye yet, even though I have heard they are there, but the suckers are definitely on the move!
Peaked at it for a bit this morning and saw 1 walleye and a few suckers. Water looks like it’s moving pretty fast.
Just saw a big frog going downstream and a sucker past him right up must not of been hungry
Yea I was just watching for a bit. Good numbers of both walleye and suckers.
With all that debris in the water its hard to watch full-screen, makes my eyes hurt LOL.
Just saw a tagged walleye swim past.
