so i just put some 35lb test on my best catfishing pole, and now it doesnt want to cast. I didnt overload the reel but thats how it feels. Its just a cheap tiger paw rod and closed reel, but has worked great and pulled in some great fish, until now.

What do you mean doesn’t want to cast? Like the line is wedged tight? Or not comin of the reel smooth?
Need a little more info to give you an answer why.

The line comes out really rough and only goes about 12 foot. It doesn’t stop like its catching. More like friction or something. I’ve respooled it 3 times and oiled the reel so I know that’s not it. Just wondering if anybody else has had a problem with it.

    Joshua,

Is it a spin-cast reel with the button on the back? If so, do not think in itself would be a problem.

Or is it a regular baitcasting reel.

Yes sir. Has the button on the back. Its only a year old and was working perfectly with the american eagle line. Only switched cause I thought spiderwire was supposed to be better.

Most closed face spincast reels do not have a level wind system so the line just bunches on. Super lines like spiderwire will dog into the poorly formed loops and get caught underneath. Try going back to monofilament. I would not use superlines on a spincast reel.

So spiderwire really should be on like an open faced reel then? I have been thinking about replacong the reel anyway with something a little heavier. thanks for the help.

    Open faced or baitcaster.

Spiderwire will also chew up the line pick up pin and it will start to cut into the line in a short time.
best to stick with mono on that reel
