Communists! It’s not a snagging rig. Someone always has to spoil the fun.

In Minnesota, if something is “fun” it’s either illegal or a very very regulated activity.
Just be happy they actually will allow it if only one of the lures has a hook. That shocks me.
Im confused. If wi allows three statewide and mn allows two on boarder waters does it go by which state you hold a licence in when fishing the mississippi?
Iowa put out a statement that the rig is legal here as long as you only have hooks on 2 of the baits. The rest can be blades, or dummy lures but have to be hookless.
Watched a guy fish one of these on a lake in Arizona last month. He didn’t catch anything but this lure definitely makes a statement going thru the water. The lake I fish in Minnesota a lot has a ton of small northerns and I could see them doing some serious damage to a lure like this. The original lure made by Mann’s bait is about $25 at Bass Pro. They had their version for about $15.
I seriously think this lure needs to be banned in tournament fishing. It is starting to dominate a lot of the tournament ciruits and that is taking away a lot of the fun.

Yeah, at some point they need to recognize the absurd!

Literally, one of these bass tourney guys could catch the winning bag in one pass…
I haven’t had a chance to throw mine yet, but do you guys really think it will be effective with just one hook and four dummy baits?
I am glad that brent ehler just won the flw tournament, using stuff besides an A rig.
And Tom monsoor was in the lead after day three fishing a swim jig.
I was getting worried that every flw tournament was just going to be an A rig chucking contest.
I think the pros have already proved that it isnt the end all cure all for bass fishing.

If it’s legal, and guys are winning with it… why not use it yourself?! It’ll be like any other lure, the bass will get accustomed to it and it won’t be as effective and that big of an issue. Fish learn and become trained to different baits, many studies have been done on fishes behaviors to baits, and I can find articles and studies to back it up.

Yes, You have to abide by the state (WI or MN) laws and regs from which you hold your resident licence.

Awe… just refreshing to see a little common sense on this topic for once. Most posts on the forums are ban the **** thing.
I’m not sure how many people are aware that the A-rig was around for awhile before Paul Elias discovered the right bite to use it on. And then all heck broke loose.
As for its effectiveness here with 1 hook. Lot of the pros were talking about the bottom bait(s) getting the most hits so you’d definitely want to rig to that tendency. Then you have to find the right bite. Probably assuming too much but not a lot of bodies of water with suspending open water shad schools around these parts. Will be interesting to see how things shake out.
I’m not jumping on the bandwagon saying ban it. I have fished tournaments around MN for the last few years now and will be heading down to Arkansas for a National one. yes I will be using an A-rig cause it’s legal, why wouldn’t i? I am just saying that this rig allows anyone to catch a ridiculous amount of fish. For the FLW and Elites this should be an illegal lure, because they are the best in the nation they should show it. Without having to use a rig with 5 swimbaits on it.
On the topic of using 4 dummies. I have heard people say that the fish tend to hit the same bait, you figure out which one that is you’re in luck!
Actually, It’s usually the center bait. And before saying the A-rig takes the fun out of fishing and that its too easy to catch a whole bunch of fish on it, you should put one in your hands and actually throw it. So many people seem to think the thing is magic. I guarantee you’ll get your @$z humbled on it. You’re not going to go out there and light it up with the A-rig just because “its an A-rig.” As Hanson said- its got to be the right bite. And just like crank bait fishing, you’ve got to be fishing it just right. Keep the Alabama rig in play. It will be an awesome lure at times. But you’ve got to know when to apply it. Just like a jerkbait- you can fish it 365 days a year and catch fish, but when the water is below 50 degrees it shines. The Alabama rig will follow a similar pattern.
You are mis-spoken. You shall aBide By the rules as per the middle of the channel! Technically if you are on the minnesota side you have to aBide By their rules.
Just got back from a week of fishing on Table Rock Lake in Missouri. Yes I used an A-Rig while there. Had three hooks and two blades. I did catch a Kentucky and a small mouth on one cast. Biggest fish of the trip was a 21″ large mouth. What was interesting to me was the number of strikes on the blades. Now in reviewing the top of this post it states that in MN we could use this rig IF we only use one hook and the rest could be dummy baits. I tend to think that there would be a lot of hits on the dummy baits. I don’t see where this rig is going to make a big difference in tournaments because we don’t have schools of shad swimming in our lakes. When fishing this rig with my brother-in-law fishing from the back of the boat using a single lure, he caught several fish that did not hit the A-rig. To me, it is no different than using 360 imaging. If you use the A-rig and are within the laws of MN, you should be fine. However, I’ll be doing some more research BEFORE I throw this thing in MN. Just my two cents worth.
