Anyone heard if the suckers are running?

I know most of you like talking walleyes, but there a lot of people who enjoy fishing for suckers on rivers like the Zumbro. And with this spring being earlier than most, I was wondering if anyone has heard if the bite was on? I had the good fortune of doing a TV show fishing for suckers with Jerry Carlson several years ago. He had done it as a kid, and thought it was a good idea for shore fishing on the smaller rivers. I will keep my ears on if anyone hears something, and I will pass it on if I hear first. Thanks.

The Elkader Iowa sucker run is going to be soon. I missed it last year and because I live around 80 miles south I’m not ontop of the immediate bite, but its coming up here very soon and I’ll try to post.

Waters gotta warm up a bit before they start gettin tubed up. Usually mid to late April for the Zumbro. But this year is different. May be sooner. Watch for new shoots of green grass, that’s the signal for me.

I love fishing the sucker run
There are some good spots in Monroe and Jackson County, WI. Last years high waters kind of killed any plans I had. Maybe this year!

I would think it will happen earlier also. The weather patterns we have going on around this area will have frogs out soon
Sure we might experience a cold snap yet….maybe.

Anyways….I’ll throw a shout out if or when it happens around here.

I live about a half mile from the Zumbro, outside of Millville. I ride bicycle on the road between there and Hammond. I’ve seen the suckers so thick you could walk across the river with out touching bottom. I also caught one of my biggest walleyes just east of the ville. I’ll keep you posted. I’ll be riding tomorrow.
P.S. Now, I said I lived near there, I’m not from there.

I was out this weekend in the Mankato area. The Minnesota and Blue Earth are flowing nicely but the feeder creeks are pretty low. We really need some rain to get the smaller creeks going. Was fishing for about 5 hours, but only a couple bites.

We got a redhorse yesterday, but I wouldn’t say they are running. Even with the warm weather, I don’t think the run will be more than maybe a couple weeks early. Certainly some heavy rains could change things though and get them going sooner than that.
