First off I wish to thank Kim And BJ(facebook friends) for allowing me to share these pictures with everyone here on IDO. It’s not at all too often that we get to see a lock chamber water free(Or thereabout)…

For those that have been down in that area you’ve probably noticed the piping spraying the water out of the lock chamber into the river. I heard a guy this winter telling his friend they were doing that to keep the ice fishermen away from the dam. That’s a good one!!

You can clearly see the water was being piped out to keep the lock chamber as water free as it can be.

I haven’t heard why they’ve been working on the dam, but one can guess it’s for preventative maintenance and general repair.

The last pic shows zebra mussels on the wall. It’s been reported they took 8 dump truck loads of zebra mussels from the lock chamber. That’s a LOT of zeebs….

Thanks Tom those pic’s are neat. It’s cool to see what they really look like empty. You won’t see that too often.

Very cool pictures. Kind of puts into perspective how bad the zebras are.

Speaking of the dam, does anyone know when you can fish the wall? The corps of engineers has the parking lot closed off.

I used to vertical jig at Dresbach when we would tie up on the bull nose. We had big long shepherd hooks made of conduit that we would attach to our boats with bungee cords to keep us on the bull nose when the locks discharged all that water. The current would be amazing! We used heavy, flat jigs & 100 fish days were common. I guess they don’t allow that anymore. We had some great trips there.

We still hook up to the wall at Dresbach. Just make sure you have padding on the areas in contact with the rail or they will kick you off

Thanks for sharing the pictures Tom. That is way cool

Yea, we padded the hooks & wrapped them good with ducttape. I was always amazed how the double jiggers could hook fish & never miss a beat. I see some guys vertical jigging two rods on Pool 4 too. I’m not that coordinated or dedicated. I’ll be out there on Fri. with my son-in-law, Josh.
