I’ve been a St. Croix guy for over a decade so it almost hurts to say this but the NRX is a lighter, more sensitive rod. I’ve fished that 7-1 M for smallmouth… the balance, feel, basically everything about it is amazing.

I am 100% in line with James statement. Here is a link to a blog I had written that actually touches on that very rod.

I fished with Granrud’s NRX last summer up at Rainy and I now wish I would have never touched it!! Can’t stop thinking about how I am going to get one for myself.

If you have $475 to spend on a rod, go for it.

I might check out the new St.Croix Legend Elite first, at $150 less and see how it compares.

That is the rub, isn’t it? I’ve fished with nothing but Elites and Extremes for the last few years and the NRX is flat out a more sensitive and better balanced rod. Is it worth the premium? That’s up to the guy buying the rod I guess. Is $475 for a rod crazy? I thought $300+ was nuts…. and somehow I ended up with a rod locker full of them.

If you can get an NRX for the same or less than an Extreme… that’s an easy decision you’ll not regret making.
