619 Starting Battery

I would like to be ready to put in a new starting battery when I get my boat out of storage. My question is, what is the largest series starting battery can I put in on a “08” 619? I believe stock is 27 series, also do I need to get a bigger tray for the battery or are they one size fits all from the factory?
    Thanks,

How many cold cranking amps does your motor require? That is your answer. I have D31M Optima for my 200HP Optimax, 2003 619.. It also runs all the electronics, livewell pumps, etc. If you have the boat motor maxed it is probably a 225 HP of some sort, go to motor owners manual and see what it requires.

I have a 225 XS. I’ve been having problems with running electronics, live wells and radio without draining battery. I usually have to monitor the volt meter and have to run the motor when I get to 12.0 volts to charge again. That doesn’t seem right from what I hear from others? How can I increase length of run time for accessories without another battery?

Optima D31 will solve all your issues.

Thanks on the battery size, do I need to get a bigger battery tray also?

I didn’t, my 3 D31Ms fit in the battery trays that were in the boat and it came with 27 wet cells. Measure your trays and then go to Optima’s website, they have the battery measurements there.

Thanks, my boat is in storage yet, so can’t measure yet. At least I won’t buy another tray yet as long as there’s a chance the existing will fit. Do you have your starting battery on a charger or just use the motor to charge it? I’m trying to do it with a trickle/maintenance charger and normal running of motor to save room and money, instead of switching from three to four bank charger?

I have all three of my D31M Optimas, on the 3 bank Dual Pro charger that came with the boat. You mean you have an 08 Ranger 619 that doesn’t have a factory installed charger? That is very curious??

my son has a 36V system and charges his motor battery whith a 10amp charger over nite or a maintainer when he leaves it sit for the week and I haven’t seen any problems.

I haven’t seen a need to use a maintenance charger and if I did I would just leave the onboard charger plugged in. If I don’t turn the master switch off there will be battery drain from the starter battery from my Optimax motor and before I switched there would be drain from the Lowrance GPS reciever. Thus it is important to turn the master switch off when the boat is not in use.

I don’t see anything wrong with using a separate maintenance charger, I just don’t see the need.

I’m not sure what the 08′ 619 set up is, but here’s what I run in my 08′ 620.
I run an Optima D34M Blue top in back storage. I also run and additonal D34M Blue top which is in my floor compartment with trolling motor batteries. I run these both as 12v. This handles starting, running live wells sometimes all day long and also easily handles
2 – HDS 10’S, 1 – HDS 8, Epansion port, radio and obviolusly a few other items. Since going to the 2 – D34M 12V set up. I have never once ran out of power or ever had any graph get a power surge. If you can do this, and run lots of electrtical stuff, think about it. I am now 100% at ease even when on the water for 10+ hours.
The D34M Optimas are the dual purpose starting/deep cycle.

24v Trolling motors run off 2 -D31M blue top Optimas and I personally have never had a lack of power concern. I run trolling motor hard at times, but not as hard as some I’m sure.
Just my set up & $.02
Get-R-out of storage soon, it’s supose to be in the 60’s next week.

D31M optima about as good as it gets. I just got a schumacher 15amp charger with an AGM setting. this battery will fit in a 27 sized tray. I bought the trays for the optima on ebay… with todays electronics don’t think your motor can charge enough… I unhook my main battery every time and give it a good charge… onboard chargers suck at it too… we did bench testing here with on board chargers and they did not do as claimed… lotta money involved to trust some mystery black box…

I plug my charger in every time I come off the water after a day, a half-day doesn’t matter how long I have used the troll batteries, they get charged. I am on 8th year on these D31M Optimas.
Also, the charger that was factory installed had one bank go bad when it was 2.5 years old. Dual Pro replaced it no questions asked.

If you’re in the market for a new battery, i would definately check out Odyssey Batteries. Odyssey Marine

Swing over to Skeeter Boat Center and pick one up off the floor. Thing is heavy.

Yes they are expensive, but from what I’ve read, the service, shelf, cycle life, and warranty are the best or among the best.

    Just my 2 cents

The boat did come with a three bank charger. I swapped the 24v to a 36v trolling motor before I left the dealer. I had them just switch the starting battery leads to the added trolling battery, there lies my dilemma.

Then I would go Optima D31M.

I heard the same thing talking to a guy that Ranger had answering questions at the Twin Cities boat show. And he wasn’t sponsored by Odyssey either.

Ah, now I understand. Lots cheaper, probably than putting a 4 bank charger in?
