Hello, i have never had to deal with the mayfly hatch before, but i have planned a trip to a flowage up in northern Wi. I guess that mid to late june is prime time for the dreaded hatch.

How long do they last typically?

and How long after does it affect the fishing?

    Thanks

I personally like fishing a mayfly hatch. When they are hatching, just find the mud and you will be on fish. It is the post mayfly hatch that can be frustrating. Full bellies for the walleyes and the fishing slows. What flowage are you going to be fishing here in Northern Wisconsin?

I will be on Turtle flambeau for the first time. How long does it take for the walleyes to start biting after they all die?

Some of the best crappie fishing I’ve had on the Mississippi is when the mayfly hatch is on. The fish would be plucking mayflies off the water so fishing a small minnow very shallow was deadly.
