On my phone, the only time I seem to get pop ups is when I install something silly (games) that have embedded advertisements and continue to run in the background even after exiting. Some will even stick around after throwing them in the garbage, so you have to go in and actually uninstall them.

I use Advanced Task Killer to easily monitor what is running and kill processes I don’t need.

I use Adfree android but that requires you to root your phone. If you have an Android phone, rooting is a necessity in my opinion.

    I should clarify that…
    I use AirPush Detector.

I guess I have never had a problem with pop up ads on my phone.

I rarely browse the web on my phone anymore unless I am out in the wild. It was cool when it first cam out, like a lot of things, but as the cool factor wears off you realize it is still a tiny screen.

I take it back, I probably do go on the web on my phone plenty. Especially external links on Facebook. But I am going to the same sites over and over, I am not browsing the web.

So what am I saying? I guess I am saying I can’t help ya.

I guess I need some clarification. Do you mean banner ads when you say pop up ads?

not sure. it is embedded. in words with friends. just started playing and tired of submitting a word on the phone then haveing it go to a popup ad then return to game crap every single time.

I’d be interested in learning about something that can block that. Apps are very compartmentalized.

Don’t hold me to this but I think you have to pay words with friends to prevent that from happening. Haven’t played that for while and it pissed me off also and looked around and found that out

    X2

As for the app-ads, I’m pretty sure those are there to stay unless you buy the paid app version. That’s the goal anyway right? Annoy you with it until you pay up.

OK, you are referring to banner ads. These can be blocked, but only if you have a rooted phone. By having a rooted phone, you can edit system files. The file in question in the /etc/hosts file. The app AdFree will download a list of known ad hosts and then edit your /etc/hosts file to redirect any banner ad with that particular host back to your own localhost, resulting in a blank page therefore no ad displayed.

Or at least get compensated by a third party to let you play the app free. What’s the old saying? Nothing is for free.
