Yukon XL Tire Pressure Monitoring Valve Stems

I have a 2007 Yukon XL. I’m getting front brakes put in today. I asked them to check one of my rear tires that has a slow leak. Just got a call and they said the valve stem has a slow leak. It has the tire pressure monitoring system. They said it would be 180.00 to replace the valve stem. I told them I’m not buying a 180.00 valve stem. They said my warning light will stay on without it. They are going to try and clean up the existing stem.

Anyone else had this issue? Are there after market ones available? Are there ways to disable the pressure monitoring system? Thanks for any help.

They aren’t just replacing the valve stem, they are replacing the entire TPMS. Thay are fairly expensive. You can get them aftermarket for a little less, but who is going to put it in? You need to remove the tire from the rim, or at the very least break the bead to get at it….

    Valve Stem

What is this stem missing? The thought of spending 180.00 for a valve stem isn’t very attractive. That is darn near 800.00 for the 4 tires. I don’t care if I have a pressure monitoring system. I have a 3.00 air gauge that works just fine. Do you know if my spare has a sensor too?

    Only after it’s paid for!!

Have same issue with a 2007 Chev 3500 after a tire rotation. Darn irritating!

Just heard back from the dealer. They said they were able to clean up the seal on the valve stem and it doesn’t appear to be leaking anymore.

I like the tape idea, but I think that dummy light is used for other warnings too.

I agree it is an irritating light. Even if you reset the warning, it comes back on.

I’ll add this to a list of vehicle options that I would rather due without. Right next to the 600.00 auto dimming side mirrors.

If they used the same stem the light should go out if the correct pressure is in the tire. They can get a new stem but they are spendy, the new one usually has to be programed so the computer can reconize it. You do not need to replace the whole system. Just more stupid electrical stuff to go wrong. The sad thing is is that it is only getting worse.

Does this have a rubber stem that snaps in and the sensor is inside the tire and screwed to the stem or is the stem aluminum with like a nut to hold it in. If it is a rubber stem you can replace it for $20.00 max.

    Of course it is aluminum.

If it was Tires Plus in Rochester the first thing they would say is you have bad tie rod ends. Mine have been bad for 70K miles per them.

You cn buy bolt in type sensor for $75.00. It shouldn’t cost $100. to install and reprogram.

If you look under the back seat of my Titan, there’s a 2″x12″ piece of pcv pipe with end caps and a schrader valve on it. And yes inside you will find 4 tps’s and surprise it is pressurized to 50 lbs. No light on the dash.
