my kid came home from work tonight, and as she pulled into the parking lot the brakeline behind the driver broke. my question is how do I get it out of here to get it fixed. I have good mechanics in fairly close range.. but I live in the country, and have to drive down a hill just to get to the road ourside my house. the reason I know its the brake line is that I can hear it out side of the truck when I pump the brakes . I bow to the wisdom of the forum.

Pull the release, or push the button release on the emergency brake so that it doesn’t lock down and use the e-brake instead of your brake pedal. I had to do that to get home with my bassboat one time – not fun but it works. Just don’t tailgate anyone because as you would guess it isn’t going to stop fast, but if you take your time and leave plenty of room to stop you’ll be fine.

P.S. Gearing down to first or second gear to go down your hill is probably a good idea to keep your speed down.

Tow truck is the safest way. I wouldn’t drive a vehilce like that anywhere. Towing it is cheaper than getting in an accident.

Soemtimes you can pinch the line and put some more brake fluid in just can not got to far . The emergency brake works also.

just cut the line in front of where she is a leakin and bend it over and crimp it with a vice grip might still drip a small amount but the rest of your brakes will work and you will be just fine to make it to the mechanic! just dont forget to refill the fluid before ya take off!

    What the other guys said…

I drove my truck for like a week using the parking brake, Its not very smart, but it worked.
I actually brought my truck to a mechanic and they didnt have time to work on it for a while, so one of the mechanics actually convinced me that I could replace the brake line myself. Only cost me like $30 for a couple pieces of brake line at oreilly, compared to $100 to $200 I was quoted by a mechanic

You should still have some brakes as the line should only affect 2 wheels. Just be careful and drive slow and avoid all panic stops.

Providing you have a place out of the weather to work on it breaklines are one of the easiest fixes on a truck. Had a 79 riviera that was a nightmare. Brakeline ran on top of the frame rail with just enough room for about a quarter turn with a wrench. Save the money if ya can.

Your brakes should be a dual system so either the front brakes or the rear breaks should still work. The pedal will about hit the floor but should work.

If it is an older truck make sure your ebrake does not lock up before you leave otherwise you wont get to far. If it is behide the driver seat it should be for the back brakes so just crimp it and go get it fixed. The front brakes do about 70 percent of the braking anyway.
