Yikes. I thought if you made it to the hospital standing with chest pains you were home free. Apparently not.

It sure was a corny show looking back, but very entertaning for 12 year old back then. I remember reading once that Steven Stills tried out for the role Peter Tork played. Good thing for us that he lost. Stills must been a terrible actor. 66 and a heart attack. What a shame.

And to think when the producers put them together, they couldn’t play a lick on the guitar! They all had to be taught to play guitar. They were supposed to be America’s answer to the Beatles. Of course Mike Nesmith’s mother invented the original white-out, so he had money going in. They were formed in 1965 in Los Angeles, & their first #1 hit was “Last Train to Clarksville”, which debuted in Sept. of 1966. RIP Davey, we loved ‘ya…………

I grew up watching The Monkees reruns in between the Munsters and Gilligan’s Island. Hearing this brings me back to the good old days.

Rest in Peace. No one played the tambourine like you.

So sad. I remember us guys back in the old neighborhood in California getting instruments and playing (trying) to their albums. Never heard so many folks telling us to TURN IT DOWN. Told them sorry , they said not the record but YOU GUYS. haha. Peter and Mike were actually real musicians. RIP My friend Wil

Sorry to hear about this too!! I to grew up watching the Monkees and loved the music they had–even if they didnt write songs or play them!! I even have the Best of the Monkees CD in my truck—in the site it said they outsold the Beatles when at there prime–I didnt know that!! Way too young!!

One of my favorite bands redid The Porpoise Song. It’s a good spring song. Gonna play it a couple times today.
