I was looking at a $67,000 Fishing boat and was trying to understand the target market for a boat like that – when the average annual income for a fisherman has to be significantly less than that.

Add – $3,000 for electronics $3,000 in rods and reels and another $3,000 is tackle.

    Seems pricey

Just curious as to the mindset….

I hear ya dog. That is crazy 67,000 for a fishing boat. If I owned it I would be to scared to take out fishing. Might get dirty, or worse yet hit something.

You’re only putting one 10″ screen on that rig??

Exactly, after pricing a new rig, I decided there was nothing wrong with mine that a fresh coat of wax wouldn’t cure. The base price of the boat, motor, and trailer are (for me) way over the top and then there’s the accessories- -scairy- – -jerr

However, I do know of guides that buy a new boat and have a signed purchase agreement from someone to buy the boat after a years use. The 2nd owner gets to chose the eqt, model, color, etc. Gets the remaining extended warranties and a nearly new boat at a greatly reduced price. The guide gets the business write-offs and a new boat every year.

I’d say more like 7,000-8,000 in electronics.

There are a lot of us who can’t swing something like that. But let’s try to remember there are a lot of other fisherman/sportsman who do have a lot of money and can afford that.

The media is making it sound like the economy is so bad. However a lot of people are making a lot of money right now.

X2!!! Mine still floats and gets me from point A to B!!! It ain’t the fastest or prettiest, but it’s bought and paid for, which makes me grin knowing I don’t have ANOTHER payment!!

We were laughing at the price of the boats at the Minneapolis sportman’s show a couple of years ago. The salesman got upset with me. I asked him if the fish knew how expensive the boat was…”Oh hey, that guy spent $51,000 on his boat, let’s swim over there and surrender”. I don’t think he understood my point.

I guess I don’t care about the big ticket boats as long as there are affordable decent used rigs available for the rest of us.

For those making the usa today average income(40,000) you are unable to afford the gas for the tow vehicle. The boat, boat gas and rigging is way out of reach. But there are those who still have the financial ability.(real or perceived) Thats what makes our economy go for now.

Thats why I am still in my jon boat with a 15 4 stroke.

Its slow but works for the Mississippi.

The good news is that there is a boat for every budget. those that can, do. I was talking with my local dealer the other day, and they had sold about 2 dozen of those boats this year so far. It is really a matter priorities more than price. I am getting a new boat this year, but we don’t have cable tv.

Not any different that a 100k sportscar, 30k motorcycle, 10k atv… those that can,,, DO…

There should be over 100 of those 65k fishin boats in red wing in a few weeks, and these same 100 boat owners will get a new one next year.. Wish I could do that… COME ON POWERBALL!!!

And only 3 rods and reels???

Some of the people that buy these boats can afford them, but a lot people that “buy” them can almost afford the payments by financing them for 15 years…. The rest of us get to pay for those people’s bankruptcies.

They wouldn’t make them if people weren’t buying them. God bless the free market…while it still exists.

The answer to “why 300hp?” is because we can.

And besides, I don’t want to be showing up for the coming apocalypse in an old boat.
