Im looking for a male black lab puppy with good blood lines, hunting dog, house dog. I’m willing to spend some money, I want a good hunting dog that will also be a great fishing buddy. If anyone knows of a good kennel or a recent litter I’d love some help. Thanks in advance!

I have an 8 yr old yellow male from this kennel and he is exactly what you described wanting in a dog.February 18, 2012 at 1:02 am #1040284A breeder I know in Huron has a good litter ready to drop any day here. Should be a mix of blacks and yellows. He has some spoken for already. Both sire and dam are AKC SH, grand sire is 2005 AKC NFC, so plenty of potential in these dogs. Come with shots, EIC tested, all health clearances.
My black I have now is a littermate to the dam, and a phenominal dog.
If you want more info, shoot me a pm with your email address, and ill send you over all of the info.
February 18, 2012 at 1:24 am #1040291I have the perfect boat companion black lab and almost added another one last fall from Whispering Bliss Labradors. They are located in west central MN, but had my pick for Swedish black lab pedigree in MN. Only reason I didn’t is that I already have 3 dogs.
Depends on what you like though, British or Swedish lineage. I’m big into Swedish labs. They really dig the boat and water.
Two of the best pedigrees for Swedish labs in MN are:
Jake

Rage

Good luck!
February 18, 2012 at 1:36 am #1040294Try Jerry Sather at Labs Unlimited a call. Usually he has one or two litters hitting the ground at the end of Feb. or early March.
I know he just left for TX where he trains for a few weeks each winter, so you may end up playing a little phone tag with him.
February 18, 2012 at 2:18 am #1040309We do have an IDO member that has a pointing lab kennel. Stu
West is located in Elmwood Wi. Long blood lines with excelent temperment.inge66Posts: 366February 18, 2012 at 3:18 am #1040319I to am looking for a pointing lab/family dog. What can a guy expect to pay??
February 18, 2012 at 4:44 am #1040329Normally, i don’t get into these ****ing matches (it’s kinda like my rod is better than your rod), but my name was mentioned. (i guess, it’s thanks , hilltopper; if there’s anything left beyond ashes, we can still do P4!!)
my lines might be out of his budget, but it’s pretty hard to spend too much if you can find health, temperament and field ability. EACH of these base about $500 among the better kennels and go up from there. (yes, you can get lucky, but i’ve found when dealing with ODW litters to buy first pick)
You can often get financial considerations by giving up pick position, gender/coat choice, breeding rights, delivery date.
In our case, we ONLY breed after full pay and 3/4 litter sold. I send approximately 75% of my calls with cash in their teeth (read: wife said i could buy today) walking, but placing pups is a massive headache and few times have i been happy.
Over 55 years in the biz, i’ve sold/placed about 2000 pups and it’s painful to admit that only 5% of my placements have made me feel that i’ve done right by the animal.
I started the PL genetic in ’85, and that has given me satisfaction. It’s good to see homosapien view an animal for all of it’s abilities and concerns.
We’ve done 11 generations and i’ve been told that my kennel supersedes the Queens kennel, the Aussie kennel, the Blind kennel, DOD and the CG,navy and air force kennels by the head of TSAs breeding program. After 14 months of negotiating am meeting FTF with them soon and he does know what i’m asking for my blood. Nice to have the govt respect IP for a change!!!
As far as picking a breeder, it’s alot like restaurants: mosts are not around 5 years from now, JUST when your dog is developing problems!!! No wonder vets get cynical…Try to find a breeder with 500 references written with emails, phones and specific lines that pup was from.
As far as temperament, don’t worry what the breeder names his lines (if he has more than one….) Concentrate on meeting the parents. Go to the sires house and meet him too!! He threw in 1/2 the genetics. Many ‘flavor-of-the-day’ options are out there (and after starting one FOTD 35 years ago, i’ve seen a lot of them), BUT if you like both parents, your odds will go up.
Lastly, when it comes to listening to others advice, remember that those that DO find a satisfactory match usually take credit for the success of the relationship, while it’s most often the patience of the animal that truly makes the match work.
It’s kinda like picking a spouse, you spend a TON of money on the search, the relationship rarely matches your expectations, but NOW you have to live with it. IF you go into it with your eyes open, that will help you.
When someone else tells you EXACTLY what will make you happy, remember that it’s YOU that has to live with the animal after the decision and THEY aren’t YOU, and your anger toward them later won’t get you very far.
If you’ve got an SO, i don’t know what to say to you. Last week a 10 dog long term client told me that he’d COMPLETELY surprised his wife with the dog and she wouldn’t talk with him for 90 days, but that the 3 dogs of mine he keeps at all times, SAVED his marriage AND his relationship with his two children.
Another said the dog saved his sanity during a divorce.
A third committed suicide when the judge gave the dog to the ex.
On a brighter note, we’ve got a couple of pups now and 4,5,6 and 7 positions on the next litter available. WE also offer time pay for buyers with high odds of dog-success!!
Best of luck in your search and spend a LOT of time rolling around on the floor with your pup. It’s NOT unconditional love (if you disagree, stop feeding your dog some time and see how many days it stays around), but it’s the closest thing to it on this planet that i’ve found…
