Terrova Opinion Needed

I just picked up a 2012 Terrova with a transducer and the I-Pilot already installed. I also got the quick release trolling motor bracket as well. I plan on using my own transducer so I will need to run my own cable.

The question I have is: is there any benefit or reason to install the quick release bracket if I never plan on removing the trolling motor or is there another reason to use it?

One thing, or advantage to the release braket is you can move the motor to avoid hitting motor on roller or trailer.I have a Ranger 620 and depending on the ramp, I have hit when coming off, and a couple times, it was hard enough to almost make me .
Mine is hard bolted without a bracket and that’s the way I prefer it, but know in some other posts, some have said this to be an advantage. If it’s going to hit, quick release it and move to avoid problems. Mine hit so hard once it broke the side plastic cover on one side. I now have that figured out . May want to ask others that have the terrova on the same boat you will be installing it on.
Other than that, you’re going to Love it!!!
    Good luck

I put the release bracket on my boat with a terrova…..just because. It is actually easier to steal the trolling motor with the bracket on if that is an issue where it is stored/parked. Nice to have the option to remove if you want it off but if you don’t need to take it off….often, not really necessary.

I like being able to take mine off for long trips, you never know when you could hit a large bump and it could deploy. Also a good reason to move the height nut to the bottom while in transit.

Let me know if you need any help on the install.

Thanks Jeff.I was wondering the same things as mine is coming next week. One advantage of the release is that if you fish in the winter or spring.. As I have, Your motor could become frozen in place. About 5 years ago,I was fishing out of my boat during an IDO tournament and on about the 3rd drift, My motor was frozen in place. Back to the Evrets resort and ended up being able to remove it and put it up next to the heater in the shop while Shooting the Bull with Dean and the boys. So I was able to thaw it out and back to the river we went. Found our next honey hole which put us in 3rd place the next day!

Why your own transducer? I have had good luck with the US2 through
    my HDS.

I take my troller off so it will not damage the cover while traveling.

I also run a 620 with Terrova with the quick release bracket. I would highly recommend adding the bracket. I too have broken a number of side plates while launching by boats, until I figured out the release trick (referenced earlier). Also, it is true it is easier to steal, but it is also easier to take off and keep safe (and not frozen). The main reason is if (God forbid) you have damage, seal issues, or need repairs for any reason, it is way easier to pull it off with bracket instead of having to pull it all apart and unscrew from your hull.

Let me know if you need any recommendations for riggers. I know of a few Minn-Kota ace guys out there. It isn’t hard to do, but having it done by a Minn-Kota supported rigger can help in the long run.

    Good luck.

The big benefit I see is being able to remove it when I travel with the cover on. My cover fits with the trolling motor on or off but it fits much tighter for long hauls with the motor off. I also take the troller off a few times a year if we go tubing. Without the bracket you don’t have the option and you just never know when it might be useful. For $40 it is nice to have the option IMO.
