Does anyone know an electrician that is looking for side work? I have an old building that needs updating(wiring, circuit breaker and lighting). I am opening a small business and would like to see if anyone from this site needed the work. Thanks in advance

Better make sure that electrician has a license and insurance that covers “side work”

    Lindy Joe,
I don’t think that is allowed according to the IBEW rules…

I don’t know about the IBEW rules. All I wanted to do is to help someone that is a licensed electrician that need some side work to make ends meet. Sorry if this offends anyone. I never meant to break any rules.

So……It’s against the law to be a non union electrician? huh.

So if I want a new water heater installed is it “against the rules” to hire someone not part of the pipe fitters union??

All the poor guy wants to do is get some electrical work done at a fair price. Even if it means “breaking the rules of the IBEW” as I would do the same.

Why is everything lately becoming a union / non-union debate?

Every electrical job I’ve ever had done has been as a side job for somebody, and I’m sure most of them were union guys.

Mn state law reqires that a person doing electrical work have a master’s license or be working under someone who has a master’s license. Law also states you must have a electrical contractor’s license and be bonded and insured. State law allows a person to wire his/her own residence without these requirements, but not a commercial establishment. State law does not state anything about the person doing the side job on being non-union or union. Lindy, word of caution, make sure you have it inspected because if somthing bad were to happen that was caused by electrical ,your liability insurance will cover. Good luck with your business adventure
