Don’t waist your time below the roller dam in south cedar rapids Palolo, its too shallow in the west side and you’d have to wade to get to deeper water. You might do ok below the dam downtown, right below it on the west side. You’ll see a calm area right next to the concrete wall and you can fish there. Another spot woudl be on the west side right under the first ave. bridge for smaller channels and maybe a whitebass or two. Good luck, got to work today or Id go too and post a report if you go. Both places and you might hook into a walleye on crawlers. The river is this low every winter.

When I’m fishing channels in the winter with Sudden Impact, I use it sparingly, unlike in the summer when I put so much on I know I’m wasting it.

I know I’m a little late and don’t have a clue how much liver was on our hook, but some times Less is More™.

I was trying to point out that smaller baits seem to work better in the cold water months. A gob of liver might have been too much. I used Sudden Impact as my example.

Maybe just try a smaller hook with a smaller piece of liver.

But if you feel you have to… Sudden Impact<

I just happend to have a pic sry it’s blurry.

The suit was comfortable and kept me warm..it is a little snug in the thigh area other than that I like how it looks on me.

Brrr Looks a little nippy there. You have more snow there than we do up here. Good to hear that you are happy with it. I have to agree that it looks good on you

The most well known lake in our area is Horseshoe by Richmond, MN. Many folks go there just to fish channels through the ice.

There’s Byllesby near Cannon Falls, that’s been picking up popularity.

Lake Zumbro has kicked out some awesome cats to the few folks that fish them down there.

Pool 4, through the ice on Pepin or by boat…and there’s zero crowds where the cats are biting in both those locations.

They’re cleaning up on cats on the Miss. river right now on shad guts. And will be on the Iowa river whenever it opens back up. Crawlers with scent and stink bait will work too.
But you have to take it to them. They won’t travel far for food right now.

Any good camping places close to the river on the iowa side? Internet only turned ub some truckstop place that allows camping if you wanna call it that.
