I am looking at purchasing a used boat that has a 2007 Merc 115 4-stroke on it? I have not owned a Mercury in awhile and i hated my last one which was a 50 hp 2-stroke. Does anybody know more about this engine as my current motor is a 90 e-tec and i love it. Please help?

I have run Yammie, Honda, Merc,Johnson, and Evinrude motors. Currently I have a F150 Yammie and a 30hp EFI 4s merc for a winter boat. I would not be one bit afraid of running a Merc, in fact after running the newer Merc EFI 4 Strokes I would say they have areas they shine in. Very quiet and smooth and easy stating in the winter. My last Merc was a 2 stroke carb and it was a good motor but it didn’t shine in the cold. Have a mechanic take a good look at it, then go have some fun.

I’ve got a 2009 EFI on a Alumacraft Trophy 175. I have been very happy with the motor so far. Very quiet and like the above post starts well in the cold.

It does not shoot me out of the hole at mach speed, but it does sip the gas compared to my 115 2 stroke on my old boat. I can get right around 40 mph top speed.

Like you, I too was a bit Merc shy when I got the 75-4. It has changed my mind, been very dependable even in the cold. The Clymer (sp?) book helps with just about any maint or fix-it you could imagine.

My buddy’s 18.5 Crestliner jumps on plane and can cruise at 38 mph. I usually run it at 25 mph and the 40 gallon tank hasn’t gotten below 1/2 any of the 5 years we’ve run it on Gull Rock. My only complaint is trolling with the motor requires a drift sock to keep it below 1.5 mph. The Minnkota trolling motor does a good job below 1.0 mph.
