I just miss the simplicity of fixing or replacing the older trucks.
Exactly silver. A few basic tools and you can fix them yourself, @ home. On the suit remark, I did make sure to say not everybody. I’m sure there are a lot of people who drive the trucks just because they like them. I for sure aint gonna judge anyone or bashem for it. Just amuzing is all. Bout as amuzing as watchin a little granny slide in the seat of a camaro.
Whats the cost of maintnance on the newer trucks though? I was thinking of buying this 99 dodge ram on craigslist. Ad said it needed a tranny. I couldnt find one for under $2k. Hell, I decided to rebuild my motor instead. Plus i had enough money left over to put in a nice cb. Little off topic, but if anyone is close to des moines and has a topper with a sliding front window for sale im looking for one.

I despise mechanics (the act of mechanicing, not the people). Can’t say I miss the lack of reliability at all.
Is the term “city slicker” a dig at those who did not inherit their livelihood? I live in town, own a 2006 F350 that I use for business as well as pulling my boat and am as self made as Henry Ford. I have owned pickup trucks from every decade that I have lived in, and I would not trade my ’06 for any of them.
Remember when you could sit ot the fender with your feet in the motor compartment to change the spark plugs, points and wires. My 07 F150, I’ve probably opened the hood maybe 10 times just to ask people, what the hell is that thing?
Drive around and find that old truck for sale on somebody’s lawn. throw it in the garage and start wrenchin’…

I had a 76 Dodge pick up for a while. We are talking in the early 90’s. I slept under the hood a couple times.
or howbout when a laptop was not a needed tool to figure out what an engine code meant? The newest truck i have ever owned was a 81 chevy k10. I went in to get insurance on my 78 last week and they asked me if I wanted to regiter it as an antique, which meant i could basicly drive it in parades. Sorry, but my vehicles are drivers. Another thing i miss is being able to look in the paper and get a descent truck for $4-$500. Now all you get is a ‘project’ for the money. I understand the economy is bad, but if all you aint getting something that runs its aint worth no 1200 to me.
i dont think cityclicker is any worse a term than redneck. like everything else, you have good and bad ones.As far as reliability, I have never had a truck that wasnt reliable. Change the oil when you should and keep up on general maintenance and the old ones are jus as reliable as the new ones. Only real diffrence is the old ones had alot less to go wrong. They didnt have all the computerized crap like tire sensors and suspension selectors! lol. Somethings acting funny, you pull it under a tree, pop the hood and in no time you can figure it out.
Yeah! And what’s up with this “internet” thing I’ve been hearing about and while were at it, the other day I saw one of them there colored folk sitting in the front of the bus.
Git R Done
I think we get it Heavychevy..You like old trucks.
Other than the memories and easier to fix yourself I don’t think anyone can really make a solid argument that they are better than the modern options.
i was simply responding to others that felt the same way. Didnt know it was against the law. Ya know, some of you fols are real uptight on here and I really dont think this is the place for me. Been nice meeting most of you.

Ifyou can’t take the heat, stay out of the kitchen. Don’t take any one serious on topic like this. 99% of this stuff is tounge in cheek sarcasm.
i never had to worry about a battery going dead in those rotary phones rented from Ma Bell. those were the days.
of course, i couldn’t call for a tow from the highway when the tilt steering in my ’78 Chevy bent the wires and blew the brake light fuse for the 10th time either, but hey, i do miss those phones…

Don’t let Walleyebuster bother you. The past few years have been pretty rough on him… he’s a Die-Hard Queen’s fan.
I think this is a ridiculous thread, who cares..

Another post i was looking at got me to wondering about this. A pickup used to be a hard working vehicle to get you where you wanted to go while towing a camper, boat or what ever the case may be. You could also tell with a quick glance as to wether its a ford, dodge, etc. Now the are pretty much cars on steroids and other than a dodge i cant tell what the other trucks are on the road. What really tickles me is when I’m at the gas station or store and some guy comes out in a 3 piece suit and climbs in a truck. I wont say all, but I bet the majority of these guys wouldnt touch a worm to save their lives. Im originaly a country boy and was raised on a farm, and still trying to figure out city folk, but pardon the language, trucks have lost their balls! Sure you can go alot further on a tank of gas than you can in my 78 scottsdale, but it was built to flat out work. What yall think on the subject?
Oh No..
Sorry HeavyChevy.. I didn’t mean anything by that other than it was an observation. Please accept my apology. I’ve been a real dink lately but certainly don’t want you to not be on the site because of a smart *** comment that I made..
Sorry yall, must have a touch of cabin fever. Trucks are just a subject i could talk about all day long and was thinking i could get some friendly ribbing going between the ford and chevy guys. Next time i will try and not keep it going as long.

NO problems, I could hear the Ford/Chevy debate all day long. Just don’t bring up Dodge, we have a guy thinks he knows everything except paint.
Ya, big G I will still buy the first and now the second after that comment

Do they make a truck…that runs?
Ok, I’m leavin’ now…
i have had 3 dodges and had good luck with them. Problem for me was the parts were always 3 times mor expensive when something broke. Gotta say tho that the 318’s can handel alot of abuse. I had 2 fords back in highschool. 1 kept throwing driveshafts and the other ate universal joints like crazy. I like the looks of the mid 70s fords, but will stick with my chevy

I am a Chevy guy but my first car was a 1967 Plymouth Belvedere with a 318, that was one sweet ride. IMHO the 318 was the best motor Mopar ever made.

Steve,
Did you buy that car new
a guy i fish with has a mid 90’s tacoma with over 300k miles on it. it still looks new too.
No doubt the 318 belongs in the Motor Hall of Fame. Along with the long gone GM 350 and the Ford straight 300. Those motors all took it square on the chin and always came back for more.
See HeavyChevy….we can actually poke at each other here and not get too bent…good people on this forum. And it is mid-winter so a bit of the fever creeps into all of us, including me, about this time of year. Glad to see you decided to hang here for a while.
thanks curmudgeon. It wasnt just this post though. There was another post on here about about cars and it turned into a debate about unions and how they are lazy or not. Problem was nobody was looking at what eachother was saying. They just picked out what they wanted to argue about jumped in. Decided though im just gonna ignore and avoid those posts.
Nice car steve. I thought all the belveders came with the shaker style hood in the middle, or was that a diffrent year or package on the car?
