Hungry Pike!

Wed. had a large(12-15 lb.)pike come over and eyeball my camera after landing a couple of walleye in 21 ft. water, he circled a few times then swam over and ate my marcum 825 whole! Had a hell of a time to finally get him to let go! Couple pretty deep nicks in the cable and a few deep scatches on the cam but seems to still work fine! Maybe put a treble on my Cam!! I got a good look at what a smaller fish last sees when eaten. LOL. Anyone else had this happen?

Too bad you didn’t have that recorded.

Make sure you put some sort of sealant on those nicks in the cable.

That would have been cool to have video of.

That’s why I don’t understand the though of having a camera housing looking like a bait fish.

I know the thought is to have it look like something natural, but I’ve never had a fish run away from MarCum’s Manta camera yet.

Buddy of mine had his Aqua View with the bluegill looking camera hit. Similar situation, the cable was cut open. He filled it with silicone and kept using it until the thing died the following season.

I’ve witnessed both perch and walleye shy a bit on Mille Lacs a few times from the camera. I still caught some fish, but I could see others hang up out 6-8 feet. Could have been peer coincidence too.

I may have stated that incorrectly.

I wouldn’t and don’t recommend to walleye fish with a camera down. They do seem to be stand offish on biting. Seems like walleyes are noted for this. (‘Course James has a video with a eye taking a bait..so I can’t ever say never) The camera should be used to find and ID fish.

What I mean was walleyes still come in and look at the camera and say cheese.

If a camera is used for walleyes, it should be placed as far away from the bait as possible.

So you are saying you walleye fish?

I think the ultra clear water on Mille Lacs is a detriment at times during tough bites. Line visibility, lure color and presentation etc…can all put already finicky fish on alert.

Dang it Joe, I have a reputation to keep!

Ok, I will admit to snagging them occasionally…but it’s never on purpose!

AND of course they are ALWAYS returned to the water IMMEDIATELY without even being measured or photographed…
