Because they can’t follow their own rules, that is someone else’s problem ??? It can’t be 3 or 4 of them doing it….
February 9, 2012 at 7:32 pm #1037203They are also suing the stores…4 liquor stores….in a town of about a DOZEN people!
These stores sold almost 5 MILLION cans of beer in 2010.
That’s about 13,700 cans per DAY!!!
Or…570 cases per day!!!How big is this reservation they are catering to?
And we thought Wisconsin had a drinking problem…huh, lightweights there (and everywhere), I guess…
February 9, 2012 at 7:42 pm #1037206I worked on the Ridge and hunted down there in the late 90’s. No doubt it’s a very poor area. At the time, it was the “scariest” neighborhood I’d ever been too. As a white man who was there doing contract work, I was told to get the heck out before dark. Me and my Geo Metro always listened. I met some great people down there that worked in the schools. There is some really neat country down there along the White River. Great deer and turkey hunting.
I’m sure, as one of the few reservations without a Casino, they are looking for another way to bankroll the few in power in the tribe.
buck-slayerPosts: 1499February 9, 2012 at 7:46 pm #1037211The lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court of Nebraska also targets four offsite beer stores in Whiteclay, a Nebraska town that despite having only about a dozen residents sold nearly 5 million cans of beer in 2010.
The article also states a majority of the residents of the res. are below fed poverty level, which leads me to assume they are on some sort of public assistance. So in a round about way we pay for that beer to be consumed.
February 9, 2012 at 7:56 pm #1037217Sooooooo…..It’s Budweiser and Miller’s fault that these poor ba$tards drink????
I do feel sorry for the kids, but COME ON!!!!!
I’m thinking that they figure if they sue for an outragous amount, they will do 2 things.
1)Publicity for the Tribe/Their Cause
2)Settle for WAY less, but still a nice sum of $$$$ so that the beer companys won’t have to get bad publicity from this.February 9, 2012 at 8:44 pm #1037240Hopefully its immediately dismissed as the frivalous law suit it is. Just more fodder for the media.
February 9, 2012 at 9:14 pm #1037248You absolutley have to be kidding me!
Isn’t anybody responsable for their own actions anymore. I still can’t believe the tobacco companies lost their suit years ago! WTF! It’s your choice to drink or not. The brewing companies don’t make you drink and the tobacco companies don’t make you smoke! Wake up it’s your decision!
Damn this pi$$es me off!February 9, 2012 at 9:52 pm #1037263I think they stocked up for preservation sake. Ever see what happens when you tell a drunk that there is no more beer?

That is just a prime example of this country becoming a “nanny state”…..Also a very good example for tort reform. If this country was “looser pays legal fees” like Great Britian you wouldn’t see these type of suits

Well of course it is!! This is the age of having NO accountability for anything you do, so it’s gotta be blamed on SOMEone.
Living here in NE, we hear about the Whiteclay situation all the time. It’s tough, but c’mon people: you gotta be responsible for YOURSELF.

No ya don’t, our government says sowkwPosts: 730February 12, 2012 at 5:10 pm #1038140I have been through the Pine Ridge/White Clay area many times, and I don’t feel sorry for the Indians at all ! The number of them walking the mile and a half from Pine Ridge to White Clay to buy alcohol would SHOCK you. Many are hit and killed by the ones that do have a junker to drive drunk in. I have went by the gov’t built recreation center many times and have yet to see one person there.
They have done this to themselves and have no one else to blame.
WW
P.S. If you go through there make sure you have plenty of gas !
