Pool 2 and I have a love hate relationship. In the spring, it hated me. Come warm summer days, it loved me.

Pawlenty did indeed sign off on a tax increase to fund it.
Pawlenty signed off on bonding to loan money to the Twins. Assuming the loan is repaid, no state taxpayer funds are used to pay for the Twins Stadium.
-J.
Sorry Jon, that is completely untrue. I believe now you may be the one “just guessing”. As I posted earlier the state senate in may of 2006 passed a bill allowing hennepin county to raise taxes .15% without a public referendum. That is the bill that Tim Pawlenty signed sitting right at home plate wearing his twins jersey. The state didn’t loan money to anybody to build a Twins stadium. The Pohlads paid 1/3 the cost and the rest was paid for by a tax increase in hennepin county. Those are the facts. Aslo, you stated my comment that he signed off on using state tax money to build the Gophers stadium was untrue. Do you care to explain how the state paid for 48% of that building without his approval?
Pawlenty signed the bill giving Hennepin County the green light to raise sales tax .15% without a referendum. Yeah, it was a slight of hand, but no state tax dollars were used. It came from one county.
That’s true, it came from one county. If you look at my original post that’s exectly what it said. He raised county taxes, and used tax dollars for 2 stadiums. County taxes for 1 and state taxes for the other. Thank you prop1 for at least being able to acknowledge that I was right on this. IMO people can get so frustrated with one political party they lose the ability to see that the guy they voted for does the same stuff they critisize somebody else for doing. Like the stadiums, there’s no reason to throw rocks at the democrats when republicans have a track record of the same thing. Until big business and lobbyists stop controling how politicians vote they will never do whats best for the people. Which was my original point, you can demand a resignation from Mark Dayton if you want, but until we find a way to change how our government is run we will never be represented by a politician who gives a damn about the people he is representing.

Just make sure you kill them.
Despite this tracking off the intendeed subject,I am impressed with your fact finding on former Govenor Dayton and stadium taxes.
Well Done Sir!

…former Govenor Dayton…
Thanks you Jeff! I am with you on that one!
Flirting with the possibility of having this thread shut down….
He’s not the Peoples Governor.

He raised county taxes…
The fact remains Pawlenty never signed legislation as governor to raise the state tax or any other broad-based taxes. Your links imply it was his signiture that raised county taxes. Not true. As govenor he had no authority to do so.

Josh A,

Well Done Sir!
Sorry Pug!
“T.Paws and his Vetos, are the reasons your poperty Taxes rose during his former terms.
False. My property taxes never rose.
And you think it is some magical shell game when they collect money at the state level and redistribute it? It taxes some of the property tax burden off the people who should be paying it. The property owner. But I guess that is not as bad as subsidizing big bad oil. Its all relative.
First off- Who said he raised property taxes? It was a raise in the Hennepin county sales tax. So it wasn’t just the citizens of hennepin county that paid for it, it was anybody that spent money there. Secondly- How can people still be trying to argue that the Gov didn’t indeed sign this tax into law? The elected officials in Hennepin county along with the Twins are the brains behind the tax raise, but in order to for it to be made into law it had to pass the state senate and be signed by Tim Pawlenty himself. One more time Jon, state senate passed funding bill, which included the sales tax increase proposed by hennepin county, 34-32 in may 2006. Tim Pawlenty signed that bill, which included a .15% raise to hennepin county sales tax, on a friday night sitting at home plate wearing a twins jersey before a mariners game. You can say the Gov has no control over county taxes if you want, you can also say water isn’t wet.
