I was just researching the odds of overturning this veto. Copied from the Mn Legislature FAQ:

“Can the Legislature override the governor’s veto? Is there a limit to that privilege?

Yes, the Legislature can override vetoes, including vetoes of line items, as noted in article IV, section 23 of the Minnesota Constitution. The action must receive a two-thirds majority in both houses (90 in the House and 45 in the Senate) in order to achieve this. There is no limit to the privilege, though successfully overriding a veto has been rare over the course of the state’s history. For historical data on vetoes and override attempts, visit the Legislative Library’s Web page Bills Vetoed.”

This bill would have to gain 5 votes in BOTH the house and senate to overturn Daytons poor decision.

I find it ironic(sickening for you Josh ), that the people of Mn have clearly stated we don’t support a public funded NFL stadium, yet Dayton charges forward. Quote taken from the Governor’s website:

“March 1 – Governor Dayton, Legislative Leaders, City of Minneapolis, and Minnesota Vikings Announce Agreement for People’s Stadium”

Well, since this is a people’s stadium, I’m all for it now…

Great email G. Don’t worry about being socialist though, apparently according to ihprop1 we’re a communist state.

Some pieces of poop are brown, other s black. They all stink though.

Don’t expect any replies though. If there is enough blowback from this he’ll hunker down in a bunker with some scotch and meds, not reappearing until the next election.

If you read the veto letter, the tone is of a mouthpiece, not a leader.

If you have paid attention to Dayton’s political career, none of this should surprise you.

Wait, that isn’t so funny when you realize they actually have so much contempt for us, they figured that using that language would actually work.

If politicians only did the popular thing than Tim Pawlenty wouldn’t have raised county taxes to build Target Field. In fact, he used tax money to build 2 stadiums. Is the metrodome good enough for the NFL but not our horse poop worst in the big 10 college team? You’re right though, its only the democrats that spend money. Again, on the gun issue, I have no interest at all, but think it was wrong to be vetoed.

    I’m not surprised.

    It was a “peoples veto”.

Both comments completely not true. You need to check your facts BEFORE posting.

Peoples’ Stadium, you say? Does that mean my rugby team can play there if we want? Can I take my family camping on the 50 yard line if I so desire?

I’m paying for it and I sure as hell am not going to be watching that stupid foosball team play there.

you are right sir, this is why that was written. To me, and maybe I’m dead wrong, some of the posts about spending on the stadium and bridge come off with an anti democrat tone. People who get caught up in politics (i include myself) will often point out the negative things a party does and procede to rip them for it. The problem is never an individual polician or political party, its the system that is running our country. Mark Dayton should have signed the new gun the because its what the people wanted. If the NRA funded his political party he would flip flop on it in a heart beat. The same with any republican. They have no beliefs and only care about whose paying their bills. I think its missing the point to blame a politician for how they vote since every one votes the way their major donors want them too. IMO the only way to make politicians decent is to make it illegal to contribute to there campaigns.

Mr. Jordan, I’ve been wrong before. Are you suggesting tax money wasn’t used for both those projects?

Pawlenty never signed off on any tax increase. Look it up. And again, dont just go off guessing about things that are important. Nothing more irritating….grrrrr.

ok i checked. The twins paid 1/3 the cost and the rest was a .15% hennepin county sales tax. The house passed the deal and bypassed a public referendum

I think you were reading the bridge thread wrong. The Stillwater bridge is in grave disrepair. It is literally crumbling. That project needed to be done and I’m happy to pay tax dollars to build a new one. Hopefully it gets done before any lives are lost.

The Vikings are going to suck just as much in a new stadium as the do in the Metrodome. The stadium is just a billionaire working the system so he doesn’t have to pay for his own playground, er, I mean People’s Playground.

    Republican/Democrat doesn’t matter.

In 2009, if the Aint’s wouldn’t of had an illegal bounty on Favre… we would have won that game and dare I say, the SB

just outta curiosity, if you dont care about an issue either way, why would you post about it several times?

politics in general is very interesting to me. It really doesn’t matter what the issue is. The more I read and contribute to a post the more I’ll learn about a topic. whether I agree, disagree or don’t care, I like to know whats going on. And by posting on this website I can get a good understanding of what people with common interests as me are thinking about certain topics. Without IDO I wouldn’t have even known this law was up for a vote

You are getting closer. Continue your research. Hint – state funds were not used to fund the Twins. Thus Pawlenty never signed off on any funding.

Unions are a political machine. They take the money they collect from individual workers and use it to try and influence politicians to enact laws that benefit the people they represnt.

And with a SB, we’d already have the first brick laid on the People’s Stadium. Might even get people to buy meaningless pieces of paper to fund part of it.

The Hennepin county plan to raise taxes by .15% had to be passed by the state in order to be put into effect. The state senate approved the hennepin county sales tax increase by a vote of 34-32 in May of 2006. Tim Pawlenty than had the option to either veto the new tax or sign it. He signed it. So, it was not a state tax the stadium was funded with, but Tim Pawlenty did indeed sign off on a tax increase to fund it. He also signed a bill to use state taxes to build the Gophers’ new stadium. Should we keep fact checking?

here’s one more about the twins stadium. He signed the bill before a seattle mariners game sitting at home plate at the metrodome wearing a twins jersey. Is that enough facts, or will I still be wrongly accused of guessing and not fact checking before I enter my posts?
