In December 2010 I decided to start keeping track of the fish species I’ve caught after reading an interview with the French lure designer Patrick Sébile (who had recently caught his 600th species). I thought about it, and realized I had caught quite a few myself, so I made a list. Here’s my list, broken down by family.

Sunfish (19): largemouth bass, northern largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, spotted bass, northern spotted bass, rock bass, Roanoke bass, black crappie, white crappie, bluegill, pumpkinseed, warmouth, flyer, redear sunfish (shellcracker), green sunfish, longear sunfish, redbreast sunfish, orangespotted sunfish, dollar sunfish

Catfish (10): channel catfish, blue catfish, white catfish, flathead catfish, stonecat, flat bullhead, black bullhead, yellow bullhead, snail bullhead, brown bullhead

Suckers (2): golden redhorse, river redhorse

Salmonids (3): brook trout, rainbow trout, brown trout

Temperate Basses (2): striped bass, white bass

Minnows (17): common carp, common shiner, golden shiner, striped shiner, redfin shiner, spotfin shiner, steelcolor shiner, whitetail shiner, cutlips minnow, fallfish, central stoneroller, creek chub, river chub, bull chub, streamline chub, hornyhead (redtail) chub, bluehead chub

    Cartilaginous Fish (1): Atlantic stingray

    Herrings (1): alewife

Drums (3): spot croaker, Atlantic croaker, white mullet

Perch (2): yellow perch, apron du Rhône

Minnows – Does that count if you used the scoop from the bait store?

I hope CastandBlast can chime in because I remember a website were they had all the species they had ever caught, it was a pretty extensive list.

    Definitely miss those posts….

I’ll shoot him a link to this thread. He rarely on here but yes I think he hit over 200 species last year. That is including Micros AKA Minnows.

I personally am around 60 species. Life has gotten in the way of getting all of my species together in one place right now. As far as the “normal” species many times they are just never targeted.

Yep, it’s true, the next walleye I catch will be my first… No pike or muskie or pickerel, no shad, no sharks, no bowfin, no gar, and no sturgeon…

As for heading north, I’d love to! Maybe one day I’ll get up there…

    Hey guys,

I’m currently at 206 species, all legally by hook and line in the mouth. Yes, I am a lifelist junky and do ENJOY chasing Micros too as well as 200 lb. White Sturgeon and 100+ lb. Aligator Gar.

My time in SE Asia was a blast but unfortunately I am no longer there making great memories and cool exotic stories.

There are a few in the 1000 species count but it takes saltwater catches and money to reach that goal. Hopefully someday that will become a reality for me. That is why you call it a Lifelist. It will take a lifetime to reach a goal like that.

BTW, all my lifelist pics can be seen here: http://www.roughfish.com/component/option,com_joomgallery/func,viewcategory/catid,25/

Howdy C&B, good to see somebody I know here… I’m shooting for 200, ‘cuz like you said it takes money to go for a thousand. I doubt I’ll ever get to the Mekong, but I do expect to get to South America and back to Europe.

A friend of mine just took up fishing 9 months ago, and he got 11 last year. My goal is to get him to 25 or 30, and to get myself to 70 this year.
