I’m not going to compare these to other schools right now, I’ll let others do that, but compared to what I’ve read on this page in past years, this class is shaping up nicely, including the top two ranked kids in MN.

Keep up the good work coach Kill!!!

    I heard he had 10 in-staters signing…

Great job landing the instate recruits but he still has the 12th ranked class in the Big 10!

Wow, we actually might have found a coach. Took them a couple decades, but they finally did it.

Congrats to the staff. It would be nice to see the Gophers be able to compete in the Big 10 again. I seem to be sensing a backlash towards pro sports in Minnesota.A strong Gopher showing in all sports would be great.

I know I would have liked to see the Mankato West Qb and the Blue Earth Lineman on my Badgers.

It’s nice to see.. But I’d be willing to bet it’s more about the kids getting together and deciding to stay home than it is the coaches magically keeping the in-staters for the first time in forever. Either way, great to hear!

    Walleyebuster,

Couldn’t disagree with you more. Why now? What brought them together?

No, this is all on coach Kill.

Since my last update they’ve landed another 4 star recruit, a top 5 WI kid, and two more MN studs.

If this is 12th in the Big 10, the SEC is in trouble!!!

SEC teams 2012 football recruit rankings:

    1) Alabama

    4) Florida

    5) Georgia

    12) LSU

    15) S. Carolina

    18) Auburn

    22) Tennessee

The SEC has seven teams ranked in the top 25 nationally.

I don’t think there to worried about Minnesota or most of the rest of the Big Ten for that matter.

Having said that, I do think Jerry Kill has been good for your program and the recruits they brought in this year don’t look to bad on paper. From here, regardless of how many stars they have behind their name, it’s entirely a matter of how well the coaches develop them.

As a whole, I don’t put a ton of stock in recruit rankings.

Wisconsin never seems to get ranked very high either when it comes to overall recruiting but still seems to do quite well with the kids they do sign.

I’m just curious here, but what difference does it make weather you keep the in state kids, or get kids from another state?

The perception is that if you keep the in state kids that the high school coaches start to promote your program. The reality is coach Kill would take 50 kids from Texas if he could get them. It’s a tough sell to get the really Blue Chip kids to play at Minnesota. They all want that TV coverage and draft status that the big time programs give you. If Kill gets the program back to 8-4 or 7-5 it will be viewed as a gigantic win.

We will never again the national power that we were back in the early 60’s due to the fact ALL schools now take the black athletes from the South. In the late 50’s and early 60’s Minnesota was the only northern school recruiting them.

Coach Kill is doing a good job. In just a few years the stench of the Brewster years will be behind us.

kids dont want to go to a poor program AND freeze their butt off. They’ll put up with the cold for programs like MI or WI

If you cannot get the top recruits from in-state, you sure as heck ain’t gonna get them from another state… in- state is the start… and I do agree to some extent with walleybuster, when 1 top recruit from in-state picks the home program.. it makes more in-state kids say…” hey, maybe it can be a good team” although I do credit Kill with getting the 1st few to stay

Congratulations Gopher fans. Building a fine new stadium, getting a good coach, and some players. You are moving in the right direction. I’d much rather see your team do well than any Michigan or Ohio team. Enjoy the ride. It is really really hard to get good speedy talent to play in the cold. Putting a fence around your own state talent is the best move you can make.

Kill was interviewed on KFAN today. He said once the QB from Mankato made the commitment the in state kids stated to sign up “like dominos” (his words). Persig and Hayes are a dang good start to at least a respectable o-line. Hopefully they got some speed at the other skill positions. I think Kill has at least has brought integrity back to program. Now let’s see how he and his staff are at developing these guys.

HEHE,, Turns out I was right Cougareye!

But that’s what it takes,, “Get the big one” and the rest will follow. Congrats to Kill on that.
