That looks just like my buddy Mike trying to back his rig in. There has been a couple times I thought I was going to have to pull him out from behind the wheel and do it myself

I have to go through that almost every day on my narrow driveway ect. I have the appropriate dents and a broken rear light lens to prove it. Lol

I just back the trailer up to the water egde, and then my wife just has to back me in 25′ without having to turn the wheel. That seems to work well, and no fight on the water. When we get back to the dock she holds the boat I back the trailer in. We switch spots and she pulls the boat out. That is one reason that I won’t use a public access on Mille lacs any more. Too many people that have no clue what they are doing. Waiting in line for a half hour to launch, but do not unstrap or uncover the boat until it is their turn at the ramp, and then 15 attempts to back the boat in. Then the motor won’t start. I gladly pay $10 for easy in and out, and not having to worry about someone stealing ratchet straps or a spare tire off of my trailer.

Backing up a trailer is easy. As long as you don’t have brothers like mine around egging you on every inch of the way.

I’m sorry, but if you cannot back a trailer down a ramp in under 3 attempts, you have no business driving a trailer. Bring it to an empty parking lot, practice and learn how to do it. At any ramp is not the time to be learning how to back up.

I agree totally! I thought I could back it up since all I had to do was back it straight up..it’s a lot harder than it looks

Go to a school on the weekend and practice in the parking lot. When you think you are really, really good then try backing up all the way around the building.

Once you master that then the ramps seem like childs play.

Two biggest problems people have is they 1) try and go to fast, 2) they can’t use mirrors.

And sorry, I was not directing that at you at all, simply to everyone who cannot back a trailer. Practice makes perfect.

I have been backing up boats for many many years and some times it takes me two attempts

One thing that helped me when i was learning was to keep my hand on the bottom of the steering wheel. If you want to go right, turn it to the right. Neat little trick helped me learn…

I’ve backed up a lot of vehicles with trailers but I’m a look over my shoulder guy. Wait until someone asks you to back up their gigantic rig in an unfamiliar vehicle where you have to use mirrors.

Backing up a u-haul trailer, snowmobile trailer, boat trailer or semi trailer, it’s all the same with mirrors. The only thing that changes is how fast the back end comes around.

After backing for many years using only mirrors (big trucks have no rear windows ) I still have to take a peak over my shoulder with a boat every once in awhile ( very hard to admit )
Short trailers are NOT an easy thing……

One thing that really helps me is the “guide ons” at the back corner of the trailer. It seems that without those, I cannot see the trailer in the mirrors at times.
