We’ve had singles in our yard since early December and a flock of about 20 a couple weeks ago.

Dad always said “watch the birds, they know when spring is coming”.

Since then I’ve watched them closely. Birds are stupid.

    Happy Birthday!!

Many years with a mild winter robins will stay as long as hteir is food available. For me a more reliable indicator of spring are gracles and red wing blackbirds. Many times the 1st blackbird I’ve heard in the spring is while sitting on a bucket on the ice catching large ready to burst perch.

Surpriseingly we haven’t seen any here yet, got to 53 yesterday and its already 42, I think it will get to atleast 52 and probably higher. There was about 3″ of snow a couple days ago, alot of bare ground now. Now maybe the robins will show up, no frost here and Id bet the crawlers are up. If we have an early spring it will be a good year for mushrooms.

For some reason, Robins are a rarity in our neighborhood. But I have seen the occasional one in the dead of winter. Seeing them in winter for me is more common, go figure. I don’t understand why.

Also as stated in the other thread, I heard the first mating call of my Cardinal the other day and the Chickadees switching to courting calls.

This winter it has been really odd seeing ducks flying over the house in flocks occasionally.

HairyChestedNutScratchers haven’t left at all this year. Heard of one hangin’ out at the local Chrysler dealership in St.Cloud.

    I hate Robins, they suck
If I thought they were the reason for bringing in spring I’d waste everyone of them stupid birds

Haven’t seen a single one here and I’ve been looking, maybe it was the snow cover or thier train hasen’t come by here yet. I’m going out tonight to see if the crawlers are up, used to pick them right next to the remaining snow, its the same right now.
