My wife said that the last two days there has been some water under the washing machine. Not a lot but something seems to be seeping a little. It is a top load Maytag. Any suggestions?

a seal, hose or your drum has sprung a leak…… my old washer had a spot in the drum rust through i JB welded it put duct tape over it and my buddy that bought my old house withthe washer is still using it, thats 8 years its held….. crazy! most likely you have a hose or a seal leaking though. flip it over and see if you see a spot that looks like its ben leaking.

First start off with a flash light and check the water supply where ever it starts at. Turn the washer on and slowly and carefully inspect the supply valves and hoses coming from your house plumbing. Next follow the lines into the washer and make sure they are not leaking. Take the back off the washer and look inside for anything wet. Be sure to look at everything. If it is leaking up high it will fall to the bottom with gravity. Just because the floor is wet doesn’t mean something on the bottom is leaking. If you still find nothing let the washer cycle through the normal operating ranges and keep a close on on the pump and discharge hose at the bottom. When a cycle changes, the dynamics change with the supply/discharge operations and the leak will show up for sure. Once you find the leak the rest is all uphill.

Tip the machine on it’s back and wipe every thing down. Put a piece of a brown card board box that fully fits the size of the bottom of the machine. Do a regular load of laundry. When it’s done, give it about 5 or 10 minutes, then tip the machine back and try to trace the water spot on the card board.A water leak always finds the trail of least resistance. You may have to track it up the solenoid valve, the pump, the hoses, or the main tub. It might take two, three, or four times. but I’m sure with persistance, you can find it. For the most part washers and dryers are not that difficult until they get computer controls. Hope this helps.

We had a top load Maytag for 25 years. The only part I had to replace in those 25 years of use was the anti siphon hose which was on the top left side of the tub. The symptom was some water under the washer just like you described.

Put these two posts together and you should be able to figure it out. If you find it, let us know, WE may be able to help you fix it.

I just fixed the lid switch on our washer. You would be surprised the information you can get by just doing a search on Google (Maytag Washer Leaking). Most of the sites are free and many have videos will walk you through how to diagnose where the issue is. Good luck.
