Netting a pond through the ice- anyone want to?

I’ve got a buddy who owns a small pond- no DNR involvement. He says there are a lot of carp and bullheads in there and was wondering about possibly reducing their numbers.

I do know he doesn’t want to kill it off completely as there are plenty of “desirable” fish in there for him.

I’m wondering if anyone nets in the winter and if they would be willing to go net his pond? He is located in Dodge County, MN between Dodge Center and Claremont (about 25 miles from Rochester and the Cabela’s in Owatonna).

Not sure of all the details of what he wants- just wondering if there is anyone interested or would know someone who might be. If you are interested, I will get you his contact info and you guys can work it out.

    Thanks for any help!

Cut a big hole in the center and wait. They will come up for air and you can grab em!

Wait until closer to May and cat guys from miles around will help clean out the bullheads if there’s any size to them.

Take up carp fishing for a few afternoons. If the pond is really small you could put a dent in them.

Not sure how you contact this guy, but Tim Adams is an active commercial fisherman even on the ice. They recently were on lower pool 4 netting buffalo and carp. He knows what he is doing…they took a couple of semi-loads out.

This is a news story from this fall

Guess I shoulda said a few more things on the pond. The fish aren’t in need of oxygen. This pond has a few springs and is about 12′ deep.
It also isn’t real small. He does ride his jet skis on it from time to time, so there is some size to it. Guessing around 10 acres or so.

Thanks for the replies so far.

Was talking to a guy from Canada one time and he was telling me how they net threw the ice. Guess they had some pole or jig set up for setting their nets under the ice. They would stick this down one hole and as they pulled a rope the jig would sink and as it cam back up would keep getting farther away fro the original hole. They would then measure out how much line they had out, somehow manipulate the direction and then drill a second hole to retrieve it and pull the net threw.

Anyone ever heard of this? Might have to see if its on you tube.
