I not into computers very much they do what I want and I am happy, but I am considering doing an upgrade from Vista to 7. I already ran the advisor and beside a couple of programs I have to uninstall evrything is compatible. My question is what is the advantage to upgrading? This is on my laptop so I was wondering would I get a longer battery life also? Thanks guys I appreciate any and all information

I just went from XP to 7 a couple months ago. There is little things that tick me off every day. I like to think for myself (ie moving / managing files. It seems as if it was programmed to think for you by someone that doesn’t have a clue….but then, I’m just a simple guy…..

For the average user not much to gain in my opinion. If you do plan on installing windows 7 be sure that your computer easily meets minumum requirements. I installed it on a pentium 4 system that met the requirements, but not by much and it was very slow to boot. Almost painfully slow. Once it was fully up it was alright, but not great. I have it on a new computer that is fairly fast with a six core processor, 8GB memory, and I have had no issues. Maybe a computer guy will chime in.

You might look at these reasons web page
One thing I noticed is that you do not need Quicktime player or codecs as the codecs are included and play on Windows Media Player.

First off are you going to upgrade from Vista to Win 7 or do a fresh install? I have worked in the IT field for over 25 years and the best thing you can do to a PC is a fresh install of Windows every 2 years if you plan on keeping it any length of time past the initial 2 years.

It will run like brand new again, it is a major undertaking unless you know exactly what you are doing. I would not upgrade from Vista to Win 7 unless you are having problems and if I did it would be a fresh install.

If you want to help your current setup out download these two programs and run them.

    CCleaner http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download

    Malwarebytes http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?part=dl-10804572&subj=dl&tag=button

Make sure you update Malwarebytes everytime before you scan, the free version will only manually update. If you have Malware this is one of the best at removing it.

In CCleaner under the Tools Icon you can uninstall programs or stop programs from loading at Startup, this will increase the speed of booting a lot. Also under the Registry Icon you can Scan the Registry to clean it up. This will also speed your system up tremendously. If you have any questions feel free to PM me.

The Cleaner Icon will remove unwanted files from your PC, you may want to uncheck the Cookies box to save your login info on Websites if you have saved your passwords. It’s a good idea to have all passwords saved some where, even in a folder is better than nothing.
