My first guess would be a carb cleaning.
If it runs with half choke it means the carb is not giving enough fuel to the engine and points to fuel starvation. (plugged carb jets)

That is my best guess and what I would suspect but I would not rule out other possibilities. Im sure others will say seafoam or some other hope in a can but if that stuff even works its just a band-aid if the jets are plugged.

I suppose it could be fuel filter, valve or carb bolts loosened up???

Mine done that this year and it was the fuel pump.(never did figure out why it needed a fuel pump when the tank was above the carb)

    Hope this helps

Had my Honda in because it would not run with out being on at least half choke. Carb was at fault.

Clogged main jet, starving for fuel….Hondas don’t use gravity feed for fuel delivery like most generators, they have a mechanical fuel pump to maintain constant fuel pressure….the fuel pump is the reason that you can hook the Hondas up to a boat tank for the extended run time, they are not dependant on gravity

If your not going to take the carb apart yourself, check the price of a new carb vs having someone do it. I talked to my local small engine guy and a carb for my Honda lawnmower was on $22.00. He could not take a carb apart and clean it for less. Most of the time he just replaces the carb, faster and cheaper.

Pretty sad when you can manufacture a carb in Japan, ship it across the pirate waters and sell it here cheaper, than you can get Clyde to take it apart for…? And that is a huge part of the economy woes…. Oh, I agree carb issue
