My daughter has decided to spend her Christmas money on a Itouch since her $175 won’t cover a .338 Lupa or a 7mm Ultra-mag…. She’s topped out at $200 max for the itouch, and I see that will only get her a 8GB. She has a huge music library, but no telling what else she will use this for. From current users, is 8GB enough, or how easily will she run out of capacity? Is there a better option out there for $200 or less?

8GB probably won’t be enough. But she’ll be able to store an awful lot of music on 8GB and change the songs whenever she wants by syncing to the computer. The reality is that even 32GB isn’t enough for some people.

For what it’s worth, I believe Apple is offering or will offer a cloud service to store music that will allow her to store as much as she wants online and access it anywhere she has a good cell or wi-fi signal, but you’ll have to pay a fee for the space.

According to Apple, the 8GB iPod can hold up to 2,000 songs, up to 7,000 photos, up to 8 hours of video, or some of each.

Personally, even as a guy who isn’t a Mac fanboy, there aren’t really any other good options, as Apple is the best for music.

The only other player that comes close and it is a distant close is the Microsoft Zune.

Does she have to carry around her entire library with her? 8 Gig’s will hold a lot of music. These kids have it rough man, remember having to flip a tape after 5 songs? She should be able to listen to it for at least two solid days without hearing the same song.

My take. Now days, the Itouch is much more than just an MP3 player. With all the apps you can download and use, especially when connected via WiFi make it a pretty creative little device. In my opinion, she will be disappointed in the 8Gb model and will wish she would have saved more for a larger storage platform.

On Ebay, it looks like for another $80.00 she can get the 32Gb model.

The fisher twins both got Touches for Christmas, here is what I learned. 8G is probably ok, as mentioned above Apple now has cloud service so data can be stored there too. What sold me on the 32G is the fact that these units are hardwired, meaning you cannot upgrade memory down the road. So I spent the extra $100 x 2. I recall wondering how I’d use up 512K many moons ago!

They make the clasic now with 160 gb for around that. Great deal and it works great for me. My whole 300 cd changer is on it in totally lossless format and I still have about 20 gig left.

Best bang for your buck,if used for mostly music or a few videos .I rip my CDs lossless, but convert them to 320kb/s mp3s for the player.Plus I chose to ditch iTunes after set-up

Yup no i-tunes here either. Sounds the same on my big homespeakers as a cd.
