I have simple question…why is Webb 2nd in the quarter back list for the Vikes? 6 for 6 until just now. He seems to be much better than Ponder. Or is it that the Bears were practicing for Ponder and not Webb.
January 1, 2012 at 6:06 pm #1023191Has it been stated before that Mauer an Ponder wear the same #?
Just sayin.
January 1, 2012 at 7:55 pm #1023203Allen broke the record today. Lets not forget that it was Favre that gave Strahan the gimme to break the record before. Pretty amazing too considering what Allen has around him.

They showed the replay of the record breaking sack on Farve in ’02 and I was like OMG…. talk about a lay down… Lame, that a play like that keeps it away from Jared
January 1, 2012 at 10:42 pm #1023248I really question why Ponder starts over Webb. Joe can scramble so much more than Ponder and gives Webb many more options and added time to find a open reciever. Less sacks also as he can move out of the pocket. He looked like a greased watermelon today as 2 guys at a time had a hard time tackeling him.
I have to believe Joe’s stats are better than Ponders also but we will have Ponder as our starting QB no matter what.
One could look at the number of drives per score for Webb and Ponder and I believe Webb would come out on top of that stat also.
I have nothing against Ponder but I do believe Jow Webb could be a better future for the Vikes.
January 1, 2012 at 10:50 pm #1023254Ponder will be fine with a full off season.
I can tell you why Webb doesn’t start. I didn’t watch the whole game. But what I did watch included the last offensive play. Webb looked at one receiver the whole route, yet that player was still wide open. He proceeded to throw the ball about 5 feet over his head directly into the safeties arms.
January 1, 2012 at 10:55 pm #1023257I was at the Game in Giants Stadium when Strahan set the record. It was all setup, the play before that Strahan and Farve were talking to each other.
I think Farve did it just to get Strahan off his rear end because he was coming full tilt trying to get him before that.
Congrats to Allen for breaking a bogus record.

Spot on. Give Ponder an O’Line and he won’t get hurt. No way a QB should HAVE to scramble that much in games.

Yes, he did make that mistake. Ponder also has made plenty but Webb offers so much more with his scrambling.
The last 3 games Webb has came in after Ponder was hurt, his stats prove otherwise. Even many announcers say this kid is good.
Webb and Ponder are both playing behind the same O-line. When the O line is bad as it seems to be alot this season, Ponder cannot move enough so he gets hurt. Webb gets moving and makes plays.
January 2, 2012 at 4:24 am #1023351Well, I obviously have not watched a lot of Vikes game this year. I know they have similar stats. With that in mind, I would rather take my chances with the player who has less experience and more upside. Upside in the sense he has had limited off season work and was a rookie, so maybe he is still getting up to speed.
