Group winter trip….??

I posted this as a response in the Nebraska forum and it got me to thinking…. ice isn’t coming to most of us any time soon.

Forecast calls for mid to upper 40’s here in MPLS on Saturday with highs in the 30’s every other day.

I think it’s time to plan an IDO ice fishing road trip. Anyone interested in a group trip to Ontario for walleyes, crappies and lakers?

Obviously ice isn’t coming to us. Time to go to the ice.

Is it time to be thinking about a group IDO trip to go to the ice? Say, some time in mid-late January. 3 – 4 days up in Ontario chasing huge crappies, walleye and lakers?

This is a serious query. If there’s a fair amount of interest I’ll look at putting something together along the lines of the summer outings we do on Rainy Lake.

    So, anyone interested?

Interesting post. I just filled out my passport form thinking of possibly hitting NW angle this winter.

Would love to if the timing is right! You know it is now going to turn into a deep freeze!

That would be just fine too. I’m OK with calling Ma Nature’s bluff if it means we get ice across the midwest as a response to some trip planning.

    Bring it ON!

I’m at my bench wrapping 5 new ice rods would be an interesting way of breaking them in. Pending dates and car-pooling, I’ld consider it!

Well, this was a shot in the dark but if more guys express interest I’ll start digging. It would be fun to fish with everyone as a group.

Canada would be fun but in country might be a better shot for more people. Northern MN, Wisc or even the Dakotas.

True. But if I’m putting something together we’re going some place extra cool. I’m thinking Ontario around Kenora… that area is amazing and offers opportunities you’re just not going to find south of the border.

Would love to go but I wouldn’t be able to get on the ice with out my wife and she doesn’t have a passport yet, so maybe next time!

This year isn’t looking good unless we could leave tomorrow night, you in??? I was thinking of something like this but earlier in the year, head north before we get our ice around here. I hope that it comes together and everything works out, I’m going to have to wait for the report this year.

Now that you mention it a place like Kenora would be fun.

Would a Guy need a sled for a trip like this?

Showing my age here but the last place I want to go is north during winter. If you say “costa rica for dorado” you have my attention. Good luck organizing trip

I would be all over this but due to a DUI about 20 years ago, Canada does not like me.

I’ve put together a couple bus trips up to Ballards Resort in mid Feb when they get fishing out towards the islands. Really good fishing that time of year. We took a nice 30.5 walleye last year at the same time, and we were catching 30 or more fish per day, per house. A coach bus is picking us up in Twin Cities and heading north for a couple days of fishing. It’s a good deal. Bus ride, meals, guided fishing…$375. Let me know if anyone is interested. I’ve got seats left on the 12,13,14 trip and the 26,27,28th. It’s a blast.

A simple DUI from 20 years ago will not keep you out of Canada

    James,

I’m not ruling out the St.Croix River GTG on January 21st yet. There’s ice out there and people fishing it, I have not yet been out there. A week of cold weather and it will be game on

So there’s more to the DWI story ?

I have been told a simple DWI will keep you out of Canada.

If you would do something like this in 2013 count me in, as I do not have a passport.

    Pasha Lake Cabins

It would be an absolute riot to ice fish that area.

after 20 years you don’t have to worry about it. don’t mean to hijack but I had a thread going in the Canada fishing forum a few months ago. i am going in June of 2012 and had a DUI in 1989. i’m not worried about getting in.
