Now that it has been out for a while, what are folks opinions on both? Is it worth the $$. How well does the remote control fob work? How well does the spot lock work on lakes, rivers/current, and in the wind? I’ve seen a few posts that were not completely positive lately and may be upgrading this spring and want to make sure it is well worth it all around. Comments?

Though I have only had mine since late last summer and still learning everything it does, what I have seen so far is awesome. I would not be without it now that I have used it.

I fish mainly the river and it holds me on spots when needed. It does a great job with the current as well. I have only used the pedal a couple of times as the fob is that good.
toothycrittersPosts: 253December 27, 2011 at 10:04 pm #1021812I have used my I pilot on a 80lb Terrova for 2 seasons now. I am sure I would not go back but there are times when it just pi$$es me off! The spot lock is not always so, the speed setting I gave up on. I have not used the record track. I can say that when conditions are favorable, mild winds it is great but during it is during the harsher conditions that I lean on this and that is when I get mad. The spot lock is supposed to keep you within a 5ft circle. I have blown off the spot by about 20-30ft before it tries to correct and then it never seems to get me back to where I was. That is especially painful when you have a fish hanging onto live bait and they are not taking the bait right away.
December 27, 2011 at 10:10 pm #1021815They are both worth the money. I have one on my Alumacraft and went and bought another for my 16ft jon boat. AWSOME, AWSOME, AWSOME, AWSOME.
My only suggestion is go big or go home. I took the 12 volt 55lb off my Alumacraft and put it on the jon boat. The went 24 volt 80lb on the Alumacraft. Huge difference on how well the spot lock works. Also the i-pilot remote is new and improved, make sure if you buy one you get the new remote. Worth every dime.December 27, 2011 at 10:16 pm #1021817No question they are worth every cent. I use mine on the Mississippi River under high flow conditions along with high winds. This have been an invaluable tool. I can’t imagine ever having a boat without it.
Now with that being said, the I-pilot is not as great at Minn Kota says but it is pretty great. There is a slight learning curve to this tool.

I use my iPilot for trolling cranks too. Most people don’t think of using trolling motors for cranks but it’s a nice setup for on the river. Zero noise, I can fish from anywhere on the boat, and if I’m able to record a clean track the second pass is sweet. It’s not without flaws and on a steep break you find out just how much it can drift off that recorded track. The other thing I used mine for is casting to wingdams. This can have its flaws too as you find out in light current and a south wind as the nose won’t always point into the current. I agree with the previous comment about the cruise control. I have hardly used it because I would get frustrated with consistency of speed.

I have to agree with Wade here. It does not always work as advertised, but the things it does do have changed the way I fish. You will not regret the purchase. The new one coming out this year should be even better. The fab is new and improved and has more memory.

December 28, 2011 at 3:13 am #1021932I’ve heard the iPilot remote is being redesigned and supposed to be available first part of 2012. Just an FYI. I would wait for the new one.
December 28, 2011 at 3:47 am #1021937The remote has been re-designed and is available now. Last I checked we still have 10 in-stock.
I have installed 3 of the new ones but have not heard a report back from those people if they have used them yet or how they worked.
Hoping to give one a run myself pretty soon to compare it to the old remote.
We also have just the remotes if anybody is looking to upgrade their current I-pilot to the new remote.
I will report back as soon as I hear some more info on the results!!!!!!!
