Marcum cameras/ Sunlight?

Recently read a post on the ice fishing forum about the camera being hard to view with glare. I have been wanting to get one for a while, ever since missing the less than perfect Aqua View I tossed out last year. While I may use it for some ice fishing, I would have as much fun with it in the boat, on open water. Sunlight was an issue with the aqua view, even with the hood, is it a problem with the better Marcums? Do you really need to find a way to “make” some generic crappy hood for it? I hope to get a 625SD, the 825 would be great, but more than I can swing… may end up with the VS620.

I ask as I would be really bummed if I stretched to buy this, and then struggled to enjoy it. Any input from you regulars would be great…. thanks, and Merry Christmas (a day late).

Another ??? since I have never been able to put my hands on one.. does the cable, camera, and screen all tuck away inside the padded case for secure transporting?

    Cycle Guy,
I have the 625DS and have used it about 6 times this year and am very pleased with the unit.
I think it performs well in sunny conditions. If the screen directly faces the sun you will need to turn it a couple of degrees and the glare will disapear.
I have been happy with its ability to store in the soft case also.

I use my 625 a lot in open & iced water. I*’m usually looking at very specific structure on a spot, so my method is normally kneeling on the bow, controlling the trolling motor, and munipulating the camera head cable. Very seldom to I have any problem with viewing the screen. I may need to move my head a little bit to get a more clear view, but regardless, I’m able to see what I want.

Thanks guys… I was a bit caught off guard by that other thread. I sure don’t mind a little shielding with my shadow or whatever, just common sense there. That thread made it sound terrible, and not at all what I was hoping for.

Randy, you ever use it on Lake WI? I couldn’t see anything on the old camera there, but I get up there a couple times a year in the spring and would love to use it for specific spots, nothing else to help learn my graph, and actually look at some of those trees around moon valley and such. Maybe even see some of the jigs I have added to ’em.

James has an 825 on the classified page, but I may be forced into the 620, either way it helps with your thoughts! Appreciate it.

I’ve used it in the WI river before the spring run-off. Water was still flowing fairly clean. Lack of light would often switch to Black/white or needed to turn the light on. Once the water was more stained from run-off, it was too cloudy to get a good image. never used it up there in the summer months.
