If you didn’t already know. The Gander Mountain in Maple Grove is closing. Right now almost everything in the store is 30% off. the exception is ice fishing and guns…they are less discounted. The inventory is still pretty good. They have a great selection of Costa Del Mars for 30% off. Go get it!

They might be missed except I didn’t even know they had a store there. Course I wouldn’t have gone there anyway.
December 21, 2011 at 8:45 pm #1020086When i lived in the metro , I went there quite a bit because it was close to work. I remember a scrappy dude worked the archery department and was surely a go getter. Hope he found something else between then and now.
December 21, 2011 at 9:22 pm #1020101They use to be a great store – over the years they have all gone down hill – would not be surprised if they are all out of business soon. They spend a ton of money on always remodling the stores. They would do much better on getting some new buyers who actually knew what items to carry and also on some training for the employees so they knew something about the product they sell – Don’t take it the wrong way there are some excellent employee’s working there but there are more than enough who don’t know crap. i use to work for Holiday sports before they all changed to Gander Mountain and have worked several times for Gander Mountain over the years – I could see each time I went to work for them the slide in the product carried and the skill level of the employee’s – Most all of their problems start at the top – Upper Management is a Joke and they have let go all the buyers who had a clue. At the rate they are going they will not be in business long.
December 21, 2011 at 9:33 pm #1020108They opened a beautiful, new store here in La Crosse but I am very disappointed in the selections. They have alot less fishing product. Those little stand alone areas they hang product on are a joke. Less selection and inventory. Now, if you want a gun they have it otherwise very disappointing. With all the fishing/ice fishing we have to offer in this area I would think there would be more choices. I think Fleet Farm in Winona is probably the best.
December 21, 2011 at 10:33 pm #1020128Wow!!! I just happened to be at the store today trying to locate jigs for an upcoming trip.
I found Shad Raps SR5 for $6.99 less 30% which equals $4.89 each. Reef Runner Deep Little Rippers were also the same price. Not much left for rod selections and I did not look at the reels.
I was told the reason for the closing was that the lease for the space was more than what Gander was willing to pay.
December 21, 2011 at 10:52 pm #1020134I can’t stand the Gander in LaCrosse. I almost went over the gun counter after the little A-hole behind the counter. They should know better than to hire a 5’3″ jack wagon with short man complex.
December 22, 2011 at 12:17 am #1020162The stores have really gone down hill since Baker left as CEO, he was a sportsman, that Knew the business , smart to get out when he did, we were there this past weekend. The salesman have No clue. Even my son was rolling his eyes when the salesman was trying to explain a product. Fleety is where its at!

I believe the feelings here are mutual.
Gander was best when you could walk into the Wilmot store.I remember seeing original otter ice shanty skins for 39.99 closeout.
December 22, 2011 at 2:13 am #1020207I frequent the Gander in Wausau, WI. No complaints here! Good selections and friendly staff.
December 22, 2011 at 10:51 am #1020253I used to take phone orders at Wilmot. Good company back in those days! Now not so much.

not so funny if your 5’3″ many times guys who are physiclly more imposing expect diminutive people to act subserviant to them. ie bullies. when bullies don’t get the expected reaction they seem unable to cope with it and end up with a frustrated desire to do bodily harm to somone

Yep.Some people even do it physically, some do it intellectually…thinking they are so much more clever than others.
December 25, 2011 at 11:34 pm #1021425Because someone is shorter than them? That concept is very foreign to me. I suppose I do see your point if you take 2 cocky guys and one is 6′ and the other 5’4″, one is just cocky and the other has little man’s disease, which doesn’t make sense. They are just both cocky.
